It's vintage darling!

No, it really is!! The It's Vintage Darling website is one of my new favourites. This online boutique is stocked full of brilliant vintage finds from the 1900s to the 1980s and they do not disappoint.

My top picks are this lovely 1950s Belle dress for £85. Sadly its about 3 sizes too small for me but I was pleasantly surprised to see that not all the dresses on the site were in teeny tiny sizes.

I was also quite taken by this retro-fabulous handbag! This 1970s marvel could be yours for £55.

Last but by no means least, LOOK AT THESE SHOES! Yours for just £40!

So, next time you need to find a one-off outfit that will get people talking and you don't want to have the worry of someone else turning up in anything remotely similar, then give them a try!

The book every Domestic Slut should own!

I came across this book at the Something of a Domestic event and I've not been able to put it down since. It's called 'How to feed your friends with relish' and is by the rather brilliant Joanna Weinberg. I've never come across a book quite like it; part ode to food and friendship, part carefully crafted recipe trove.

Not only do you learn how to make the most amazing sounding dishes like chicken and tarragon pie or rosewater rice pudding, you also get to find out how Joanna met her boyfriend Ed or how Joanna and her sister Sam threw their younger sister a surprise 30th birthday party (the party being the surprise rather than the birthday itself). You can, like I did, get it at Something, its also available through Bloomsbury and Amazon or indeed, one would presume any good bookstore worth its salt. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Design Porn: Powder Blue Gazebo

I'm off to the Secret Garden Party this week and I'm looking at much more garden stuff as a result. Domestic Sluttery HQ does indeed have a garden, but it's not very big. It's certainly not big enough to fit this stunning gazebo anywhere. Which is a real shame. I might have to move. And then somehow raise the £2100 to buy it from Powder Blue.

Crafty fun: Craft Guerrilla's Crafternoon

Last week, a couple of the sluts decided to check out Crafternoon. We've told you about it before, but this was the first time that we weren't hungover on a Saturday, and actually remembered that the event was coming up. Hurrah! So off we skipped to the Old Queens Head on the Essex Road to hang out with the Craft Guerrilla.

And it was fun! Really good fun! A little quiet when we arrived, but we didn't mind. We just wanted to sit in a huddle and gossip with our sewing and knitting. A bit like a crafty witches coven (that's more a comment on our silly cackling than the lovely people amongst the craft community).

I've learnt I'm not too good at sewing. Even though the craft kits are really easy. I was trying to make a cute little stuffed pear, and it would have been finished had I not sewn one of my sides inside out. I sulked and drank wine after that. Whilst I was doing that, Domestic Slut Jane learnt how to do a purl stitch so she was happy knitting away. I kept pricking my finger. A lot. I predicted I would.

You can take your own project to Crafternoon, and if there's a group of you you'll have heaps of fun. It's a nice pub, with friendly ladies (we didn't see any guys there, but I'm sure they lurk occasionally). I'd happily come back here. If for no other reason than the fact it forces you to do something instead of watching Gossip Girl on DVD.

Crafternoon is held once a month at The Old Queens Head on Essex Road in Angel. Hopefully we'll see some of you next month.

The prettiest birdhouse ever

Yes this wonderful piece of birdy design is £225 from Liberty but it's oh so pretty. I want one. Actually, I want three please.

Pretty pretty pretty! Luella Feather Wrap

I spotted this feather wrap on the wedding site Luella's Boudoir, but honestly I think this would jazz up any pretty dress (or jeans if you felt like it). It's so cute, and perfect if you want to go for the whole vintage feel. It's £140 and will make you feel like a glam 40s movie star which is well worth the money if you ask me.

Cocktail Hour: Cuba Libre

I'm just started to remember how yummy rum is. I'm putting it in just about everything at the moment. And I honestly don't think you can have too many rum cocktail recipes (we've got many more hidden up our sleeves as well). But here's a recipe for the understated Cuba Libre. If it wasn't for the pesky mojito showing up on every cocktail menu, people might drink more of those.

You'll need these things:
  • 50ml rum
  • 25ml lime juice
  • Cola
  • Ice cubes
You'll need to do these things:

Pour the rum and live juice over the ice. Top up with cola. Garnish with a wedge of lime. Make many, for all of your friends and have yourself a bit of a party.
