Sluttery Travels: Staying Cool Serviced Apartments

There are some wonderful benefits to being a Domestic Slut and my jaunt to Birmingham a few weeks ago was definitely one of the nicest. "Go and stay in a penthouse apartment in the tallest building in Birmingham, Caleigh," came the request. Well, if you insist!

The Rotunda has been a Birmingham icon since it was built in the 1960's, but how many people know that you can stay in beautifully styled apartments in this landmark? Staying Cool offer serviced apartments, filled with stunning design features and fantastic details, all in the heart of Birmingham city centre. Fantastic shopping is literally on your doorstep -  all you need to do is step outside and you are standing in front of Zara! The Bullring is just a couple of seconds away, as are a host of restaurants.

The greatest difference between a hotel and serviced apartments (apart from the space) is that, if you don't fancy going out, then you can make yourself a meal in the fully equipped kitchen instead. Gaggia coffee-maker with specially selected coffee, a fridge full of oranges and a juicing machine, breakfast cereal, olive oil and balsamic vinegar are just some of the little touches that make this a so much more than your normal self-catering break. If you want to cook your own breakfast, or midnight snack, you can order the food when you book and it'll be waiting for you when you arrive, so no fighting the crowds in M&S!

In keeping with the Rotunda's 1960's origins, the apartments are styled with a nod to the era. All the pictures in the apartment have been taken in modern day Birmingham with models dressed in 60's clothing, and all the colour details in each room are based on the splashes of colour in the photos! It really was all the little details that really made my stay so special.

I loved all the 60's styling and luxurious touches that make Staying Cool the only 5* accommodation in Birmingham city centre, but they haven't forgotten the technological comforts, either. Massive TV, Sky TV, a DVD player and wifi means that you could completely forget the rest of the world, if you wanted to.

When it comes to getting there, I have absolutely no sense of direction, but even I found the Rotunda without any difficulty! Just step off your train at Moor Street or New Street and look up, the apartments are no more than 4 minutes walk from either station. If you're arriving by car, Staying Cool offer a discounted rate on parking in the Bullring, but be warned, if you arrive after the Bullring closes then parking can get a bit more complicated! My husband drove up and managed to park in the only part of the city centre where the Rotunda wasn't visible!

Prices start at £95 a night, for the 4* "Mini" studio apartment through to £299 a night for the 5* "Roadster" penthouse, which isn't cheap. If you consider the size of the rooms, the styling and location, though, I don't think you'll find anywhere else like it.
