Cushion Crush: Nikkimade

We do love a good cushion here at Domestic Sluttery. We also quite like biscuits. So what could be better than bringing these things together in a delightful union in the shape of these wonderful hand screen-printed biscuit cushions from Nikki Made's Folksy shop.

Can we tempt you with a Custard Cream cushion, £18?

Perhaps you prefer a Bourbon cushion, £22?

Or how about a Tunnocks Teacake cushion, £17, which would be a perfect treat to go with your Tunnocks Teacake tea towel!

So what do you think? Which biscuit will you be having with your cuppa?

Folksy Find: SewYou Gadget Cases

It’s a constant paradox: I love my modern, tech-happy iPhone, but then I also really really love my big red rotary-dial retro phone. It’s just not practical to carry that around in my handbag all day, and would be useless in a crisis. “Call an Ambulance you say? I’m onto it! Just give me about a week to dial.”

I’m just going to have to compromise with this “Inspector Calls” gadget case from SewYou. I love the amount of detail on the phone face, and the little button closure is a cute touch.

It’s practical too: there’s a handy pocket on the back for my earphones, and the case is padded to protect my phone from the other junk in my handbag, and all the times I manage to chuck it on the floor when I forget I can’t multi-task. £17 well spent (plus £2 shipping).

This was a post by our trainee Domestic Slut, Laura Vickers.

Attach one to any gift and i'm pretty darn sure it will get you an extra squee of excitement from the recipient! These fabulous anchor gift tags are from Folksy seller Circusville, and cost just £2.50 for a set of four. Etsy Pick: Priscilla Pink Lily Hairclip

I am to be married next month and, as my beau and I are both fifties throwbacks, we are eloping to Las Vegas for the big day. As is obviously only fitting when one is being serenaded down the aisle by Elvis in a 1950's diner, I will be wearing a beautiful dress, in a turquoise hibiscus print, made from an original 1950's pattern. So far so good but I have been having momentous problems finding the perfect piece to perch upon my pomped up hair! I had been long flirting with the idea of a birdcage veil, which to be honest I can whip up myself, but I really wanted something a bit more. Then I found this beauty...

I introduce you to Priscilla, a double pink lily hairclip from the TikiTearaway gals, two strolling strumpets for the tropical shores of the North East of England. And guess what, Priscilla costs a mere $10 - TikiTearaways my wedding and I salute you!

You can also find the TikiTearaways on Folksy where I have been eyeing up a set of cocktail umbrella hairclips, because quite frankly what up-do isn't going to be improved by the inclusion of a cocktail umbrella!

Folksy Find: Silverfruit

I have no idea what I'd do with a lifesize silver apple. But I do know that this is wonderfully pretty. I like the little insect perched on top of it, and there's something a bit Snow White about it, isn't there? Really, I just like that it doesn't really have a purpose. William Morris said "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." I think this is beautiful.

It's £84.99, from Silverfruit on Folksy. Leave it in your fruit bowl. It'll make you smile.

Folksy Find: Fluffs Stuffs Jewellery

What do you get as a gift for the girl who has everything? Why, button earrings featuring delicious-looking slices of cake, of course. They're from Fluffs Stuffs on Folksy, and they're a bargaintastic £6. But if those aren't enough to make your mouth water, then how about...

...a brooch featuring London iconography like Big Ben, a black cab and a red double-decker? It's £10, and it's perfect for jazzing up a plain black or red wool coat or cardigan in winter. Just don't wear it in London. You don't want to look like a tourist.

And if you still haven't overdosed on Alice in Wonderland accessories, then you might like this silhouette bracelet, featuring the Cheshire cat, white rabbit and Alice herself. It's £15. We want.

Folksy Find: Vintage Train Ticket Bag

Ah, the romance and glamour of old-fashioned train travel. Doesn't it just make you want to load your luggage trunk onto a stream train and flutter a handkerchief from the window as you chug out of the station in search of your long-lost sweetheart?

At least that's what I'll be fantasising about as I slog off to work on a hideously claustrophobic commuter train with this beautiful bag slung over my shoulder. Made with a rare vintage-inspired Robert Kaufman fabric, it's printed with old-fashion train tickets and costs £29 from Uniquely Different on Folksy. Can I get mine with a handsome chap in an old-fashioned sailor outfit, please?

Folksy Find: Knitted Robot Cushion

Maybe I watched too many sci-fi films when I was younger (you know the kind, where silver lurex leggings, a severe fringe and metallic lipstick means you're in the future), but robots still make me swoon, whether they're printed onto cake plates or in the shape of salt and pepper shakers.

So, predictably, I'm fangirling all over this hand-knitted lambswool cushion, by Sara Carr on Folksy. It's £44, and since Sara's based in the UK shipping is only £4.50.

And whilst that might seem a tad expensive for somewhere soft to rest your head after a hard day at work, remember each one is hand-knitted to order, and you can be sure no-one else will have one like it. Now, would it be overkill to have this proudly displayed somewhere nearby when I next serve up cake on those robot plates...?

Folksy Find: White Rabbit Moleskine

Now, I know there's a chance that my judgement may be being swayed by all the Easter and Alice in Wonderland-themed madness that's been bandied about of late, but I'm loving the simplicity of this white rabbit moleskine journal.

With a hand-crafted silhouette cover and an inner pocket at the back for keeping tickets, receipts and all those other bits and bobs that otherwise end up in pockets and then shredded by the washing machine, it's small but perfectly-formed, and perfect for keeping in my handbag for scribbling on the go.

And at only £3 with £1.50 P&P from Mighty Thrifty on Folksy, it's enough of a bargain that it won't matter if I change my mind and get bored of it after stuffing my face with Lindt bunnies this weekend.

Folksy Find: Caroline Nash

I'm always on the hunt for unusual ceramics, and Caroline Nash on Folksy is perfect. Just whimsical enough to be interesting, but not so cutesy that her designs border on childish.

These cute little peacock mugs are £10 each.

The plant labels will be great for the gardeners amongst you. They're £13.50 for 8.

I have no need for a watering can either. I guess I could put gin punch in it or something. Yes, that's what I'll do. They're £25 each.

Folksy Finds: Russian Dolls

I've developed something of an obsession lately for russian dolls. These little ladies seem to be everywhere at the moment, so I scoured Folksy for some of my favourites:

This cute handmade coin purse is a bargain at £7.50, by Girl of the Sixties.

If you or one of your nearest and dearest are a crafty chica, then this russian doll pincushion would make an original but useful addition to any sewing kit. It's £6, by Beaky.

Or perhaps, you too, are insanely into russian dolls as I am, and would welcome the opportunity to add them to all your clothes, accessories and other belongings. If so, then these iron-on patches are perfect. They're £2.50 each, also by Beaky.

Have you got any weird obsessions you'd like to confess to us? A bizarre trend you've noticed that you'd like us to feature? Or a strange adoration of sailors/mice/biscuits that you'd like to reflect in your home or accessories? Tell us in the comments if so, and we'll do what we can to find them for you!

Folksy Find: Driftwood Lamp

This one-of-a-kind driftwood lamp, by Ultimate Drifter on Folksy, has got me fantasising about being by the seaside. Perhaps in an abandoned cottage somewhere desolate, with a four-poster bed, some handsome company, cocoa, knitted blankets and a crackling fire. Fitted with a colour-changing, eco-friendly bulb, this lamp would fit perfectly amongst natural textiles, white cotton curtains and scrubbed pine furniture.

For a full-on beach-inspired design scheme, you could combine it with nautical accessories, bleached-wood mirror and picture frames, and lots of other treasures from one of our favourite shops, Buy The Sea.

Sadly, they don't supply the cocoa or the handsome company. But with this beautiful driftwood lamp, at least you'll have the most atmospheric mood lighting whilst you daydream about your seaside getaway. And at £70 for a completely original piece, it won't put too much of dent in your holiday savings, either.

Guest Post: Emma Cossey looks at Sluttish Gadget Covers!

As any gadget fiend will tell you, there's nothing more depressing then fishing your brand new gadget out of your handbag, only to discover it's lost in a fight with your car keys. I've got a phone with great big scratches adorning the screen and an iPod with a chunk missing out of the wheel after a fall relating to a few too many cocktails. And most covers on the high street are pretty ugly. So here are some from Folksy that will protect your gadgets, but still look lovely:

Tipsy damage to gadgets is all very frustrating, but easily preventable by using a gadget case like this Leather Butterfly Case from Folksy designer Beautiful Skin.

Folksy has plenty of other options too. Prefer something a little more crafty? This Two Tone iPod Cover is hand made by designer Pins and Needles. It's yours for £10, and even comes with a little section to plug your earphones into.

The lovely designer from Szeya Designs clearly has such an affection for the Apple gadget design, that they replicated it in this case. A cheeky option for £9.90.

This cupcake design from Suezybees is adorable, and the contrast stitching round the edges is a lovely touch. I love this washing line sunglasses case too, also from the Suezybees range.

Finally, this Rainbow Gadget Cozy caught my eye, and I'm sure you can see why. Sure, it's a little childish, but that's what makes it so fun! It's from The Rainbow Room and much prettier than a boring old leather case at least.

And if you fancy making your own tech pocket? Check out this tutorial for a Leather Tech Pocket from crafty Lucy Jackson.

The fabulous Emma Cossey is editorial assistant at Miramus. You can find her scribbling geeky things over on Dork Adore, or tweeting the day away.

Folksy Find: Nova & Lorsten Film Noir Coffee Table

I'm head over heels about this reclaimed coffee table, £85 from Nova & Lorsten on Folksy. It's been decoupaged with images of classic film noir posters, then given a resin finish to make it more practical. It's kitschy, colourful and quirky without being too tacky, and as long as you kept the rest of the room simple, it'd make a unique statement piece guaranteed to get guests cooing over how original it is.

I also love their idea of "creating decoupaged swans from ugly ducklings - furniture which is scuffed and unloved and only good for the tip." The idea of transforming a plain and simple piece of furniture you nabbed primarily for its cheap price tag from a thrift shop or somewhere like Ikea into interior design porn is a very romantic one, and one which can be much more eco- and wallet-friendly than buying ready-made fancy furniture.

So much so that although I know for a fact that the results wouldn't be anywhere near as immaculate as Nova & Lorsten's version, gazing upon their heavenly homemade items does make me tempted to break out the scissors, varnish and glue and attempt to transform every piece of plain furniture I can get my grubby mitts on. Don't worry, I'll make sure I keep you posted on the inevitable DIY disasters.

Have you got crafty with PVA, sewing machine or paint pot and want to show off how clever you are? Or have you tried to execute a grandiose Changing Rooms-style home makeover, and ended up in a mess of MDF, staplegun accidents and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen diva fits? Make sure to tell us in the comments if so!

Folksy Find: Kirsty Elson Love Birds

Ick. Valentine's day is just around the corner (at least that's what all the press releases keep telling me). But this doesn't mean all things sluttery will be ablaze with hearts and bright red! Oh no! Because, well, we do enough of the romantic anyway, don't you think? I'm not with the whole 'let's be romantic for a day and then forget all about it' thing. I am in favour of buying pretty things just for me, because I want them. Like these little love birds from Kirsty Elson on Folksy.

See? They're a bit romantic, but mostly cool. They're £25 too, which is a bit of a Folksy bargain.

Folksy Find: RUBYrecycled Butterfly Cards

I love these little 3D butterfly cards by RUBYrecycled. They're so pretty, and after the rather expensive box of butterflies I featured a little while ago, at £2 each they're a fluttery bargain as well. They're designed by Ruby Wren and made from recycled card as well so you're even doing your bit for the environment.

Not sure who to send one to? Well there's no less than four Domestic Sluts' birthdays next month. We like birthday cards. And we like butterflies too...

Folksy Find: Waterlilly dishes

If you are anything like me you will regularly find little piles of nic nacs* scattered around various rooms in your house. I am most guilty of leaving little piles of jewellery all over the place so I am on the hunt for a few little dishes that I can scatter around so then at least my glitter litter (as I like to call it, Mr Sharon has another name) looks like its meant to be there.

These pretty little lovelies caught my eye. They come from Prince Design on Folksy. They also brought us the fabulous Love Bird Bowls (which I am so very much in love with) that we featured back in May!

*not Nik Naks, We're not that kind of house.

Folksy flowered jar cover

I would love to have one of those houses littered with fancy vintage jugs overflowing with fresh bouquets of flowers from the garden that you see all over home magazines. Sadly I live on the 6th floor of a modern flat which is mostly working the Ikea 2009 look so its just not going to happen. Plus if I am honest, I am a tad klutzy when it comes to pottery. Which is why I love this slip cover from The Cotton Potter on Folksy. Just grab an old jam jar, fill with water and pop this over the top! Then just add a nice little bunch of flowers from the garden/balcony/florist! I love this idea!

Folksy Find: Celebrate the changing seasons with See The Woods

We're into the last week of August, which probably means summer will finally kick off properly in a matter of days. But if you still believe in the old-fashioned concept of seasons, now is the time to start thinking about golden leaves, ripe fruit and dusky autumnal shades.

Folksy seller 'See the Woods Designs' can't wait for the smell of bonfires to permeate the air, and has already filled her shop with seasonal goodies to embrace the coming autumn. Her enthusiasm is catching, and I love this chain of falling leaves, which is on sale for just £7.50
