Thanks for all the Gin

Now that we've reminisced, got nostalgic, celebrated the last five and a half years and maybe had a bit of a cry, there’s just one last thing for us to do before we go and that’s thank our brilliant readers.

Thank you to all of you for commenting on our posts, buying the brilliant things that we've written about, helping us to champion brilliant independent designers. Thank you for recreating our recipes each week. Thank you for telling us what you’re up to on and telling us about your weekend adventures and what you’ve had for your tea.

Thank you for helping us raise over £10,000 for charity and for coming to our picnics, blogging panels and events. Thank you for buying our book, for telling your friends about us, for arguing with us, for recommending your favourite shops and designers, for being part of Domestic Sluttery. Thank you for making us want to work hard to create the best site we possibly could.

Finally, thank you for your kind and thoughtful messages this week. We're tried to reply to as many as possible and we've read every single one. They’ve meant so much to all of us and we really do know how much the site means to you. We hope you know how much our readers mean to us, you’ve helped make Domestic Sluttery everything we hoped it could be.

Goodbye for now,
Sian, Frances, Gemma, Kat, Sara, Laura B, Laura H, Katie, Alice and of course, Cocktail Nick.

xxx

PS - Thanks to Nana B Agyei on Flickr for this brilliant party popper image. We've opened the champagne and we'll be raising a glass to all of you this evening.

The End of an Era

There is a cloud over the Sluttery HQ today. This will be the last week of publishing for Domestic Sluttery, we are closing our doors on August 1st.

We’ve been publishing for five and a half years now. That’s nearly 7000 posts covering amazing recipes, brilliant designers and wonderful things that have made our days brighter and our lives better. I’ve had an absolute blast running the site.

The first printed copy of the Domestic Sluttery book!
So why is the site closing? Because it’s coming close to not being fun any more. As a businesswoman I’m supposed to think of profits and overheads first (we’re doing fine on that front) but this site has always meant more than just being a commercial success. Domestic Sluttery has been the biggest part of my life and I wouldn’t have run the site for so long if it wasn’t fun. But blogging has changed so much, the industry is now very different to when we launched. It’s become about chasing pageviews and shares and fighting Facebook algorithms. I spend my time trying to find the things that will go viral, rather than getting excited about a brilliant new designer, or testing great recipes and really pushing what we write about to make it different from the other great lifestyle blogs out there. This year our editorial is the best it has ever been; I don’t want to measure the value of something by the number of likes a photo gets on a social network.

Since I’m about to become newly unemployed, I should stress that I still love creating exciting editorial and finding the best ways to share that with an audience. I love my job and I’m damn good at it but I think as an industry we’re losing the integrity around what we do. The driving force of Domestic Sluttery, the reason I’m so proud of it, has always been its community. The people who read the site every day, argue with us, tell us stupid stories, recreate our recipes and email us to tell us that we make their days brighter. That’s more important to me than thousands of Facebook shares.

Our readers making gingerbread houses. Big love to the Roudiani sisters.
The other reason I’m so sad to close the site is the amazing team of writers. Let’s talk about them, and publish some brilliant photos.
Gin and chocolate help with cooking.
Gemma was the first person I ever told about the site. It was snowing, we were a little drunk and I told a brilliant fashion editor about my idea for a new website. Sometimes I wonder if the site would have happened without that conversation.

Sara looking very kick ass. With unicorn jewellery.
I hired Laura B because her cover letter read like Sluttery Sales Spy. Sara hadn’t got five sentences into her email to us before mentioning drag queens and glitter. As for Laura H and Alice, I’ve had the pleasure of eating their food and spending time in their company. It’s a treat to be around such lovely and talented people.

Kat on the Orient Express.
I’d invited Kat to an event I was running with the intention of just getting to know her a little better, having a hunch from Twitter that she’d fit in perfectly. After hearing her belt out karaoke numbers with such ferocity, I decided to hire her immediately, cementing the Domestic Sluttery karaoke tradition. I stalked Caleigh and convinced her to join the team as our gluten free columnist and was so thrilled when she said yes. And astonished when she wrote her column right up to the point of going into labour. Katie is our newest team member and I only wish we’d been able to grow Excellent Women further into what we could see it becoming. And Nick? I was on a beach in Croatia when I decided he would make the perfect cocktail writer for the site. I think he’s still a little surprised by the decision, years later. I stand by it.

So long, Old School Yard. Thanks for all the gin.
As for Frances, she waited very patiently until I could afford to take on another writer, many years ago. She’s seen the site – and all of us – grow up. She’s done such a brilliant job as editor over the last year. No words can sum up the high esteem in which she’s regarded by me and the team.

Hire these amazing people to write words for you. They will enrich your lives in ways you couldn’t begin to imagine.

While I’m thanking people, do go and spend some money with our regular sponsors: Hunkydory Home, Shoes International, Quince Living and Flights of Nancy. It’s because of their support and the teams at PavilionGuardian Select and Skimlinks that I’ve been able to pay everybody and keep a roof over my head. And huge thanks to all of the companies, PRs and individuals who’ve supported us over the years. You know who you are. Your support is everything to us.

Best. Night. Ever.
I spend my days with such an incredible team, writing about supremely talented people and that’s what I’m going to miss about running the site each day. But Domestic Sluttery isn’t going anywhere, not really. You can still buy our book and the site will still be live as an archive. There are far too many brilliant recipes and features to dream of taking it down. Domestic Sluttery has always been about women doing things they love. It’s always been about trying something new and not caring about being perfect. It’s always been about making time to enjoy life as you damn well please. That’s not going to change. Our mums and grans were doing it long before us.

Perhaps, in some form, the site will return in the future. I’m open to all commercial offers concerning the site (email me, let’s talk), but for now, this is the right decision. Our main editorial rule has always been to write about what we love and to enjoy doing it. You’d know if we were faking it. The site has always been a joy to create and you, our brilliant readers, don’t deserve anything less than that. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to share ideas and silliness and talk about gin, gingerbread and unicorns with you. Thank you for letting us be a part of your day.

We're hiring! Apply to be our new food writer

It's all go at Sluttery HQ at the moment so we're expanding the Domestic Sluttery team and looking for a brand new food writer. (Caleigh is expanding her own little food team and due to have a baby any day now!)

We're looking for someone to create brilliant recipes that our readers want to make instantly. We want creative food ideas that people can't wait to share. If this sounds right up your street, take a look at our current food and drink section to get an idea of our style. We've got gluten freedairy freecocktails and vegetarian food covered and we don't do restaurant reviews (nope, no plans to). Our food focus is on original recipes so you'll need to be armed with loads of them and be able to back them up with brilliant photography skills twice a week.

You must having blogging and food writing experience and while you don't have to be based in London, we're only looking for writers based in the UK. We pay our writers per post (it's not a lot but it's regular and increasing). Other perks include brilliant samples in the post as well as trips across the country and sometimes over to Europe. And you might even get to contribute to a book or two, we've got exciting plans this year.

Interested? Email us and tell us a little bit more about yourself and your food (no CVs necessary, we want you in your own words), give us more details about your writing experience and then tell us three things that you'd cook for our readers: something sweet, something savoury and something totally out of the ordinary. Don't tell us about something we've covered already, we hate that.

We need to get a wriggle on and find someone sharpish so you've got until 6pm on Monday 10th February to get your applications to us.

Good luck, everyone!

We're Hiring! Are you our next design writer?

Do you know your Eames from your elbow and your arse from your Anglepoise? We're on the look out for a new design writer! There are so many amazing British designers to discover and we feel like we're only just scratching the surface. Whether it's an exciting new ceramicist, wonderful new wallpaper, or a brilliant accessories brand, we're looking for a new writer who can the best in new design with Domestic Sluttery readers.

It's not enough just to like pretty stuff (although good taste is definitely part of the job), you'll understand design trends and what makes British designers unique - we very rarely feature design outside of the UK, and Domestic Sluttery readers don't have thousands of pounds to spend on a chair, so we've got to be sure the designers we feature are affordable.

So what do you get for joining Team Sluttery? We pay per post (not exactly thousands, but the post rates are on the up) and you'll get to work on some very cool projects. You'll also get the chance to go on trips across Europe and the UK and sometimes you'll get ace stuff in the post (we've recently been to Italy, and we're heading to the Isle of Scilly very soon). We like sharing our treats. Even the gin.

What do we need from you? You must have blogging or writing experience. We don't care if it's on your own blog, or as a professional writer - we want something that shows you understand blogging and the back end of a CMS. You'll know how to make a feature look good, and take a decent photo when you need to. You'll need to be able to commit to one post a week, but you can write from anywhere in the UK. And you do need to live in the UK - we won't be budged on that.

Got all that? Then send us three ideas for designers you'd feature on Domestic Sluttery. We only need the idea outlines, don't write the entire posts. Email us at [email protected] telling us a little bit about yourself (we don't need a CV). Don't show us stuff we've written about already - we'll almost certainly delete your application if you do. If you've applied for previous roles, you can apply again - just let us know and update your application where you need to. You've got until 5pm on Sunday 23rd June to get in touch (nope, no late applications allowed). We're looking to get someone started as soon as possible, but we get a lot of applications and it's a team decision so do be patient while we go through them all!

Good luck everyone! We can't wait to hear from you.

We're Hiring! Are you our new Let Her Eat Cake columnist?

After wowing everyone with her Lazy Slut's Chocolate Cake, impressing us with Bramble and Lemon Loaf and frankly making us collectively swoon with her Luscious Lavender Cake, Alex English is hanging up her Domestic Sluttery hat to concentrate on her fiction writing. This means that our popular cake column Let Her Eat Cake is without a cake maker and we're looking for someone new to join the team in January 2013!

Let Her Eat Cake is one of the few columns we run on the site - it's not a general food writing role. We need cakes and only cakes. You'll initially be writing cake column each fortnight, but sometimes that will increase at busy times or for specific projects.

So what do you get for joining Team Sluttery? Well you get paid per post (don't get your hopes too high - it's not a lot) and you'll get to work on some very cool projects (you all saw the Domestic Sluttery book, right?) Goodies in the post and press trips across the UK and Europe are also perks that are shared amongst the team.

What do we need from you? You must have food writing and blogging experience. We don't care if it's on your own blog, or professional writing experience - just something that shows you can write an original recipe as well as understand the back end of a CMS. It's not enough to be able to knock up a decent Victoria sponge. You'll also need to be UK-based, like all of our writers. And you'll also take a decent photo - have you seen Nick and Hazel's photography?! You don't need a photography studio in your back garden, but we do need something better than you snapping away on your iPhone. A love of karaoke isn't essential, but it certainly helps.

Got all that? Then send us three ideas for the cake column (take a look at Let Her Eat Cake for more of an idea of what we're looking for - we've got gluten free recipes sorted). We only need the ideas, don't write the entire posts. Email your ideas to [email protected]  and tell us a little bit about yourself. Don't try and wow us with stuff we've written about already - we'll almost certainly delete your application if you send us three ideas we've done.

If you've applied before you can apply again (feel free to amend your old application and tell us you've been in touch previously, we don't want to take up hours of your time). You've got until noon on December 7th to get in touch (nope, no late applications allowed). We get hundreds of applications but we'll get in touch soon after that if you're shortlisted. It's a team decision and our busiest time of year so do be patient while we read the applications.

Good luck everyone! We can't wait to read your cake ideas.

The Domestic Sluttery Cocktail Crawl!

Come and drink cocktails with Domestic Sluttery!

On July 25th, we're teaming up with the gorgeous luxury hotel chain Malmaison and we're bringing you not one, but TWO cocktail events on the same evening. We're hosting one event in the newly refurbished London bar, and one in the wonderful bar at the Birmingham Malmaison. You'll meet a different bunch of Domestic Sluts at each venue. This is our first event outside of London and we can't wait to meet you all!

The London Malmaison is here:

18-21 Charterhouse Square, London EC1M 6AH

And the Birmingam Malmaison here:

1 Wharfside Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B1 1RD

On arrival you'll get a complimentary mini Domestic Sluttery cocktail, and three of their cocktails (a cosmopolitan, bellini and apple or French martini) are being offered to everyone at the special price of £7.50 throughout the night. Of course, you're welcome to try other drinks on the menu as well. And you're very welcome to buy us drinks as well. We'd like that. There's no agenda for the evening, just drinks and chatting with a fabulous bunch of people.

Tickets are completely free, but at the moment we're limiting them to just 30 places per venue - that way we get to talk to everyone! So if you want to come along, make sure you book your slots quickly. (And do let is know if you can't make it - then someone else can have your place!)

Want a ticket or two? Run over to the Domestic Sluttery Eventbrite page to reserve your place.

Hope to see you there!

Sign up for our new and improved newsletter!

We have been busy bees recently. Not only have we been on the look out for a new writer to join the team (more on that very soon), we've given our newsletter a complete overhaul. It's snappier, it's sleeker and it's still full of fabulous Slutteryish things. It's also going weekly, which means that every Tuesday lunchtime Sel is going to send gorgeousness right into your inbox to distract you from your rubbish salad-at-your-desk lunch. We've got loads of treats planned just for subscribers.

If you haven't signed up already, you can use the box on our sidebar (look to your right - there you go). You'll get a £40 voucher for Naked Wines, which you can put towards any case of wine over £69.99 and then you'll get Sluttery directly into your inbox each week. Wine and more Sluttery to read? Brilliant.

We're hiring! Are you our next Domestic Slut?

Do you know where the coolest pieces of design in the UK are? Can you wow us with your recipes? Do you know how to shake up a decent cocktail or seven? Then you might be what we're looking for! The lovely Gail is getting ready to have a baby, so we're looking for another writer. We keep losing our writers to little people. CAN EVERYONE STOP HAVING SEX, PLEASE?

You'll need to have excellent food writing skills as well as a keen eye for all things pretty. And if your photography skills extend to a blurry photo on your iPhone, that's not going to cut it. You need to wow us (and our readers) with something that we've never seen before. So many of the applications we get sent feature ideas for things we've already written about and they go straight into the trash folder. You do need to live in the UK and you'll definitely need to have blogging experience - they're two things that we won't be budged on.

We don't have an office so you'll be able to write at home in your slippers. We do pay for posts, but it's not thousands - you won't get rich from writing for Domestic Sluttery, but you'll be kept in enough money to buy shoes and gin each month. Most of the team do 2-3 posts a week, but there are lots of other things that are fun to get involved in if you want to.

Any other perks? Ace samples and glorious press trips across the UK and Europe. You'll also be part of the loveliest team ever. We go out dancing, we run brilliant reader events, we spend way too much time doing karaoke. At least Kat can actually sing.

Want to join us? Just send us three ideas for things you'd write about (just the ideas, not entire posts, but make sure you include one foodie piece), tell us more about you and tell us where we can read your writing. Now, we know it's Easter and we're going to be on holiday so we won't read anything you send us for ages yet. You've got until 3pm on Sunday 15th to email us. If you're shortlisted, we'll be in touch shortly after that.

Good luck, everyone! We can't wait to hear from you.

Join our next #DomesticDebate 12th April 8pm

After the success of our first Domestic Debate, we've decided to do it all again! This time we're settling down on 12th April at 8pm asking the question "does the world of fashion have a positive impact on our homes and interiors?"

We'll be chatting about everything from the differences between the fashion and interior design industries, to what effect celebrity-endorsed ranges are having on interiors. Last time things got pretty feisty and we hope that lots of you will pitch in with your opinions.

Of course if you're on Twitter you can catch us on @DomesticSluts and follow the hashtag #DomesticDebate. We're not just on Twitter, though. We'll also be chatting over on the Domestic Sluttery Facebook page so you can catch up with all the action over there.

The debate should last about an hour (the last one was slightly longer because it was so much fun!) and there's almost certainly nothing good on the telly. Grab a drink and join us!

Follow Domestic Sluttery on Pinterest

"Why aren't you on Pinterest? Domestic Sluttery should definitely be on Pinterest."

We've heard this a lot recently.

And you guy were right.

Pinterest is so much fun. We joined over the weekend, and we've been pinning and playing ever since. We were late for dinner. On Friday and Saturday night. We've got a board for cute things, holiday things and even patterned things just because they look nice. We've also got a board for Domestic Sluttery things. We didn't really need anything to help us procrastinate (we've had that down to a fine art for a long time), but we're loving this.

Want to follow Domestic Sluttery on Pinterest? See you over there!

We're hiring! Are you our next food writer?

It's sad times at Sluttery HQ. The wonderful Alex has gone and got her knocked up and is due to be having a baby very soon. That's not the sad bit (we're actually really excited about the first Sluttery baby, we're going to be the coolest aunties). It does mean that she's not going to be writing any more and we need to find ourselves a new food writer.

They're big shoes to fill. See for yourself.

We're looking for someone who knows their arse from their artichokes. Someone who can wow our readers with recipes that they want to make immediately. We also want them to go a little bit further and surprise our readers with unusual foodie finds. You'll need to be able to take a decent photo of your grub (you don't need to be a professional, but an iPhone pic before you have your dinner isn't going to cut it) and we definitely want you to have food writing and blogging experience. We won't be budged on that.

We do pay our writers (although not nearly enough, it will keep you in gin and maybe even get you a treat in a shoe sale) and the perks include press trips across the country and sometimes even over to Europe. Loads of foodie samples and treats as well. Loads. One day it'll be gin, another it'll be chocolate. And who knows, you might even get to contribute to a book or two. There are loads of exciting projects happening this year and while you certainly don't have to be based in London to join the team we'd love to have more writers around the country (UK only, sorry overseas folk), if would be great to see you at the occasional event.

Want to be part of the team? Email us with a little bit more about yourself and your food, give us more details about your writing experience and then tell us three things that you'd cook for us: something sweet, something savoury and something out of the ordinary.

Since Alex is due fairly soon, we need to get a wriggle on and find someone sharpish. You've got less than a week to get your applications to us. Email us by 6pm on Sunday 12th February. We won't be able to contact everyone but if you're shortlisted, you'll hear back from us early next week.

Good luck, everyone!

Monday, 3 October 2011

Are you our next Domestic Slut?

Things are super busy at Sluttery HQ so we're looking for a new Domestic Slut to join us!

You'll need to be able to cover everything we feature so your cooking skills need to be as good as your ability to hunt out the very best in design (cheese on toast won't cut it, even if you have fabulous taste in shoes). Got something new and exciting to show us? Brilliant. We're definitely looking for someone with blogging experience - we won't be budged on that. We'd love for you to be able to do two posts a week so you'll still have plenty of time for gin-drinking and a 9-5.

We really don't mind where in the UK you live (we're not ready for take over the world just yet - sorry overseas folks). We don't have a Sluttery office so you can work from home under your duvet, or your favourite cafe (please tell us where it is). The Domestic Sluttery positions are paid, although you won't be moving to a penthouse apartment any time soon, it will keep you in cocktails. And sometimes you get those for free. In fact, awesome samples and treats are a definite Sluttery perk.

Think you should be our next Domestic Slut? Just email us and tell us a bit about yourself. Link to your previous work or current blog, and tell us the very first thing you'd write about on Domestic Sluttery. We've got a closing date this time - you've got just a week to impress us so make sure you've applied by 5pm on 10th October.

Sneaky look! The Domestic Sluttery Book!

I came back from Croatia this week to a VERY exciting package waiting for me. The Domestic Sluttery book! Hurrah! Now, you'll have to wait until November 7th before you can get your mits on it, but while you're waiting, I thought you'd like to have a look inside.

Excellent interiors tips.

And very pretty photos.

And really tasty recipes whipped up in our Sluttery kitchens.

We haven't forgotten about the Sluttery style either.

And there's always time for a cocktail (not that you'd expect anything less).

We're thrilled with it and we can't wait for the launch in November. You can pre-order the book for just £9.49 from Amazon. And you definitely should,  it's really very pretty indeed.

New in the Domestic Sluttery Shop!

Seasons are a-turning which makes me super excited for reasons other than coloured tights and crumble. This means new stock in the Domestic Sluttery shop! We've chosen our favourite of the new products at Culture Label and snapped them up for ourselves. Some are products that we've written about recently like Alottinabox and Seedbom, and we're thrilled to have them in our range. Others are items we know that you'll love. Here's the best of what's new in our shop.

This bone china rolling pin is a classic. It's especially handy now we're coming up to pie weather. (PIE WEATHER! YAY!) It's £24.

I love this silver broken-heart necklace. It's just £22.

After seeing the devastatingly handsome Georgeois Bourgeois flutter his feathery eyelashes at us this weekend, my eyelashes need a makeover. These are just £12.

My handbag (and laptop) need a bit more TLC. This laptop sleeve is perfect for keeping my prized possession safe. it's £17.50 and will have the added bonus of making me feel like a spy when really I'm just looking for a nice cafe with wifi.

Go take a look at our new products and tell us what you think!

Sluttery Event: Paper & Penmanship, September 18th

We can finally tell you about our event! Devoted to the art and craft of letter writing, Paper & Penmanship will take place at Homemade London on September 18th. We love sending (and receiving) handwritten letters and cards, and you lot are smitten with stationery so it was the perfect summer event for us.

The day will be divided up into 3 sessions each with rotating individual events so you'll get to do all of the things listed in the outline below. You can book your tickets for one individual session, two sessions or all three at a further discounted rate if you fancy spending the day with us. You'll pay £15 for one session, £27 for two sessions and £40 for all three. A Sluttery bargain for all of the stuff you'll have to do.

We're giving out goodie bags when you arrive so you can use them throughout your session (stamps included, naturally) with stationery goodies from Present & Correct (loving the new website) and our sponsors Natural History as well as many more to be announced. There will be drinks and snacks throughout the day and the whole venue will be packed with fun letter-y things. We've even got plans for the bathroom...

So what's happening in the sessions?

Morning Session (11am - 2pm)

1. The Last Post - Love letters.

Write them, talk about them, receive one from the person sat next to you. This mini event will bring out the romantic in you.

2. Book binding - make your own secret notebook.

Want to practice scribbling your signature for when you're famous? Put your to-do lists somewhere pretty? Then you'll need your very own notebook for secret penmanship and doodling - the Homemade London team will show you how.

3. Domestic Sluttery talk correspondence.

The Domestic Sluttery team and special guests talk about their favourite letters (their own, and famed ones throughout history), and discuss what makes a good letter and why we enjoy getting them so much. Bring your own letters if you'd like to join in and read them out.

Afternoon (3pm - 6pm)

1. Aimee Furnival's Postcarden.

We love Aimee's Postcardens (cress gardens AND letters, what's not to like?), so she's going to help you make your own to post to someone very lovely.

2. Letter Lounge.

Take a seat, grab some paper and write that letter you've been meaning to write for ages. We'll even post it for you once you're done.

3. Design your own postcards and letters with Tea & Crayons.

Wish they were here? Design your friends and family some postcards, and then send them on their way!

Evening (6:30pm - 8:30pm):

Domestic Debate - The Heartfelt Email

Has the internet and social media ruined letter writing? The Domestic Sluts are kicking off a debate about social media and how our letter writing has changed since we started emailing. Does it matter that we don't write by hand anymore? Do the words count more than old fashioned pen and paper?

We're so excited about the event and can't wait to meet more of you. Tickets are selling quickly so you'll have to move quickly if you want to come. See you next month!

Tuesday, 7 June 2011

Pre-order the Domestic Sluttery Book!

It's taken months of behind-the-scenes Sluttery, weeks of scribbling and days and days of recipes testing (Siany alone went through almost 2 kilos of butter) but you can now pre-order the Domestic Sluttery book on Amazon! Hurrah! We're so excited. And also really really quite sleepy and in need of a stiff drink.

There's everything in there that you'd expect from us - a wonderful mix of exciting recipes, fashion tips and interiors ideas. And heaps of other surprises that we're not allowed to tell you about just yet. It's all original content - there's no content lifted directly from the blog (that wouldn't be cool of us at all).

The release date is November 7th, and the hardback edition is just £14.99. We're so excited that we're actually looking forward to rainy days and shivery nights so you can actually see it!

Psst... want something new and exciting in the meantime? (November is aaaages away, after all.) We've also launched Domestic Sluttery on the Side - a Tumblr for all of our inspiration and things we find along our way. Hop over there for loads more pretty.

The Domestic Sluttery Shop is open!

I'm so excited to announce that the Domestic Sluttery shop is open for business! We've teamed up with the awesome Culture Label to bring you the most interesting and most quirky items from our favourite shops and designers.

We've chosen all of the items personally, so you can swoon over Kat's recession hip flask, or lust over Frances' gorgeous tights and covet Michelle's favourite Fanny Shorter anatomy cushions.

Some of the items are longtime favourites, like these wonderful Pacman cookie cutters, and the Penguin book cover postcard collection. We've got everything from fashion accessories, to stationery and homewares. Culture Label don't hike their prices up so the price you see is what you'd pay the designer if you bought directly from them. And also, everything is really really pretty.

Now you just have to choose what you're going to buy first...

We're hiring! Are you our next food writer?

Love all things foodie? Get as excited about creating Scotch egg recipes as you do baking cakes and discovering new places for afternoon tea? Domestic Sluttery is on the hunt for a new food writer, and we're pretty sure one of you reading is going to be the right person to fit the role.

It's not just enough to like food, you need to love writing about it. You'll need to have food blogging experience, and have the time to write at least three times a week. We want everything from unique and original recipes, to the very best baking techniques and foodie places that our readers will love.

The Domestic Sluts are paid (although we're not exactly living in mansions, you'll certainly be kept in shoes), and you'll get the occasional trip away and freebie too (anything from a bottle of gin landing on your doorstep, to a trip to Paris could go your way). While you'll be writing predominantly about food, you'll also need to really love the rest of the site and be itching to write about all topics we cover.

It doesn't matter where you are in the UK, but if you can make it down to London for events and parties sometimes, that would be excellent. Mainly because we're a friendly team and we like meeting up for drinks every so often.

Want to apply? Just send Siany an email, telling her about yourself and your writing, linking to your work. We won't choose someone until the end of the month, so you've got a couple of weeks yet (we've got a book to finish and Easter eggs to eat). We'll be in touch after Easter if you're shortlisted.

Any questions? Just email and ask! Or, ask us on Twitter.

UPDATE: Closing date is now 6pm, Thursday 21st April. Thanks for your excellent applications so far!

A birthday announcement

Pop open the bubbly, put some candles on a cake and get your very prettiest shoes on. It's Domestic Sluttery's 2nd birthday today! Hooray!

We're very happy today. And not just because we get cake and champagne for breakfast. We also get to give you the best birthday present today and announce some very exciting news.

Domestic Sluttery will soon be coming to a bookshop near you!

Yep, we've put down the gin, and we'll be spending our nights in front of telly scribbling away. Our book will be published by Anova just in time for Christmas presents. Expect wonderful new recipes, excellent shopping and fashion tips and a lot of surprises. We're utterly thrilled and we're already planning what to wear to our launch party.

Thank you so much to everyone who has read Domestic Sluttery over the last two years. Thanks to everyone who has ever commented, baked our recipes, argued with us, blogged about the website, liked us on Facebook and Twitter and generally supported us. We wouldn't have a book without you, and we promise to make it the best book we possibly can.

It's about time for bubbly, yes?

Domestic Sluttery do Race for Life

Yes, you read that right. On June 12th, a bunch of the Domestic Sluts are going to be joining the rest of the girls doing Race for Life and running 5k through the city of London. All to raise money for Cancer Research.

Now, we know what you're thinking. Domestic Sluts? Running? Instead of drinking gin and being layabouts? Well, usually we'd rather anything than even running for a bus. But, we're massive supporters of Cancer Research and the work they do, and we want to help with that. Putting down the cake and getting a pair of trainers on is a very small thing to do in the grand scheme of things. Cancer is touching the lives of people we know much more than it should, and hopefully our sponsorship will go some way to help stop that.

Ah, yes. About that sponsorship. You can sponsor us, you see (we don't tend to run anywhere without a catch). Actually, we'd very much like it if you did sponsor us. You can pop over to our Just Giving page and show some utter disbelief that we're doing exercise love. You could even come and cheer us on if you like. There's kisses for any of you at the finish line with gin.
