Sluttery Travels: The Gothic Temple, Buckinghamshire
The Landmark Trust's Gothic Temple is absolutely gorgeous and one of their most impressive properties (and that's a bold claim indeed). It's in Stowe in Buckinghamshire, and it was built in 1784 for Lord Cobham. I'll be honest, I don't know who Lord Cobham is, so let's whizz past that and take a look inside.
WOW. Just, wow. That is a mighty impressive ceiling.
Apparently dogs are allowed, (they'd have heaps of fun exploring, too). There are modern conveniences installed, but apparently the 'heating has to work hard to be noticed' (that's code for COLDSHIVERBRRRRRCOLD) so it's probably best to pick a weekend in summer and pack plenty of jumpers.
How much is this sexy pile of bricks? There's a four-day weekend at the end of June for £804. Sounds a lot, but the Temple sleeps four, so if you've got some buddies, it's just £50 a night.
