Sluttishly Easy: Chocolate Fudge

Want to dazzle your friends at the office or at dinner parties but just don't have the patience or full-to-bursting-with-obscure-ingredients cupboards of Delia or Nigella?

Well, fret no further. Follow my simple advice and you’ll be the envy of anyone who tastes your chocolate fudge. (And yes, I know that sounds filthy. Stop snickering, you dirty-minded lot.)

The beauty of this recipe is it’s really difficult to get wrong.

Because it’s only got two ingredients:

350g tin of condensed milk (not evaporated milk, mind. Be careful about this, they’re often next to each other on the baking aisle.)

450g of chocolate chips or buttons. White, milk or dark, depending on your taste.

And the method is easy too:

Mix the chocolate chips and condensed milk together in a microwave-proof bowl (or you can do this in a pan if you prefer). Heat on the hob or in the microwave until the chocolate is melted; this should take around five minutes.

Once the chocolate is melted, you’ll have a gloriously sexy goopy mixture. If you like, this is where you can get creative. Add in cinnamon, peanut butter, marshmallows, honey, nuts, fruit, biscuit crumbs, or whatever takes your fancy. And if your cupboards are bare, don’t despair. The plain mixture alone makes for damn good fudge; the rest is just embellishments. When you’re done adding in extras, pour the mixture into a shallow baking tray and leave in the fridge overnight. Once it’s set, slice into squares and gorge to your heart’s content. (And if, like me, you’ve got no pretensions whatsoever at being classy, whilst you’re waiting you can give the mixture bowl a good licking in front of The I.T. Crowd. But don’t blame me if you end up feeling sick with chocolate smeared all over your chops.)
