Cocktail Hour: Negroni

It's Gin Day tomorrow. Behind someone inventing champagne day, or cake day, or duvet day (wait, someone did that already didn't they?), Gin Day is up there with the best days ever. Although we quite like out birthdays and Christmas day too. But, they're not for a while. So, as it's gin day tomorrow, here's a gin-based cocktail, because it would be rude not to partake, don't you think?

I'll be using this as an excuse to have a Tom Collins with Alex, our latest Domestic Slut, but here's a recipe for the Negroni. A cocktail with rather grand roots, that's somewhat overlooked.

To make the Negroni, you'll need these things:
  • 25ml sweet vermouth
  • 25ml gin
  • 25ml Campari
  • Orange slice for garnish.
And then you should do these things:

Fill an old-fashioned glass with ice, pour everything in. Stir it all about and garnish. Then spend the rest of the day finding an excuse to try as many gin cocktails as you possibly can. Because it would be jolly rude not to.

Now if someone could only invent a 'gin and presents and cake day', we'd be very happy.

  1. Nice to see the recipe of a true classic posted up here, but I just need to point out that although the proportions are spot on, the portions themselves are too large; 25ml of each will do just fine, otherwise you'll be looking at premature liver failure!

    All the best!

  2. Goodness, you're right! We've put two measures of everything in! Why did we do that?!

Maybe is a negroni for sharing...
