Four and twenty blackbirds, baked in a pie! Hands up is your mum had one of these in the kitchen! Mine did! Not that I ever saw her use it, mind. But, stumbling across these
blackbird pie funnels from
Colloco, it's made me feel rather nostalgic. The price is like travelling back in time too. They're only £2.50.
They always remind me of a Beatrix Potter story- "The Pie and the Patty Pan" <3
ReplyDeleteI have one (thrifted I think) and I use it all the time.
ReplyDeleteHow do you use a pie funnel?? Clearly not a pie maker :) they are adorable though, I think my nan had one as they look familliar and comforting!
ReplyDeleteThey're lovely. But what do they do?
ReplyDeleteMy nan also had one. I think they look lovely but they also leave me slightly puzzled about how they work/what they do/how I use one...
ReplyDeleteYou pop him in the middle of the pie, before you put the pastry top on and the steam comes out of him! No more soggy pastry! When you get a pretty decoration in the middle of a pie, it's usually to cover up the hole from the little pie funnel.
ReplyDeleteI have one of these, bought it becasue I thought it was cute.. it took me months to realise it was a blackbird rather than just a cute duck! Totally missed the point!
ReplyDeleteI have one of these!
ReplyDeleteI'll admit to baking a pie just so that it gets used!
