This blog post required an email to my Dad. In which I asked "what's that really nice Bakewell Tart Shop in Bakewell called?"
Turns out, it's called the Bakewell Tart Shop.
See, I've never actually been here. I've never been to Bakewell, even with their wonderful name and perfect baked goods. How can something with pastry AND almond AND jam not be wonderful? Genius invention. And the Bakewell tarts from the Bakewell Tart Shop are the best that I've ever tried. Gooey filling, crumbly pastry and not too much jam. There will be fights over the last piece.
I'll admit, it's been a while. My Dad brings them back whenever he visits, so I have to time my arrival on the parental doorstep just right if I want a slice. But last night I had a bakewell craving (as you do) so did a bit of Goggling. They deliver! For a bargain price of £8.95 (including delivery) they'll post one out to you. Don't worry about them being posted - they taste better after a day or so. You can buy a personalised iced version, but I'm pretty traditional and don't think you should mess with perfection. I suggest you go buy one immediately. It'll be one of the yummiest things you eat.
OMG. You have to go - I can't believe you haven't! Buying them is half teh fun, they're all stacked up and fresh n creamy. Mmmm. I just love the huge ones, without the icing on top, that you have to cut into about 8 sections.
ReplyDeleteBakewell as a village (town?) is so gorgeous too. You must must visit. Perhaps not during this weather though.

I've had a Bakewell tart (from this very shop!) once in my life when on holiday in the Peak District, we forgot we bought it so didn't end up having it till a few days later and OMG THE BEST DESSERT EVER! now, having read your post, its all I can think about......... its all I am craving..... nothing else will do.... thank crap they deliver!!!
ReplyDeletePleased you think they taste better after a couple of days! And such good value too. I can't see how I'll get through the rest of the day without ordering one.
ReplyDeleteI've had Bakewell Tart from Bakewell - not sure of it was that shop - but was a teeny bakery. I bought the large (for sharing) size to take home. This was the original sort with the eggy custard top. Did I say take home? ha! I scoffed it all in the car. Seriously heaven!
