Sluttery Interviews: MaaPstudio
This is our last interview from the All Things Original series, and we're ending with a chat with Monika from the jewellery shop MaapStudio.
Tell us more about your range and what you do.
I am designer and jewellery maker mainly specializing in design and production of contemporary jewellery. In all my creations you can see an appreciation of material. My main material is parian porcelain clay. Parian is a self-glazing biscuit porcelain that when high fired has a subtle matte sheen. Every piece is enriched with a subtle palette of color inspired by nature.
What's a typical day like for you?
I am morning person or let's say my little ones are, so I am usually wake up at 6.30. Then it's coffee time, breakfast with my family and time to get online to check the news. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are my main working days as my mom is helping me with the children so at that days I would grab another cuppa coffee to take up to my studio. I deal with any orders that need to be sent out, work on custom orders and any current design projects. I'll take a short break for lunch and then it's making for the afternoon, punctuated by a run to the post office and making tea. About 8 o'clock Pati and Antony's bath and bedtime story. After that I'll usually work in my studio until 12 pm. Rest of the week I am enjoying being mom and wife!
What inspires you?
I am inspired by abstract and nature objects around me. I like floral patterns, clean lines translucent forms and 1920's couture.
What's next for you and your designs?
I have a lot of custom orders from brides I also planning to design something for men.
Which other designers on All Things Original should we check out?
I like bags and purses from Bagatelles & co.
