Retro Toys at Firebox
When I was a kid, I always wanted a penguin escalator. You know the ones where the little penguins go up the stairs, and then whoosh down the slide? Always wanted one. And I was always sad that I never got one. I'd still really quite like one now actually. Although I was happy to pick up my favourite My Little Pony on eBay for a few pounds.
Whilst I can't find any penguins, Retro To Go found some very cool Fisher-Price toys at Firebox. And now I want a wheelie chatter telephone more than anything. Remember those? So much more fun than those caterpillars you'd drag along, with all the legs (but not nearly as fun as a Play Doh barber shop or a Mr. Frosty, let's get our toys in perspective here). The toys start at £14.99, which is pricey, but it's a little bit of happy nostalgia and that's well worth paying for.
Now I just need a pretend shopping till and some plastic food.
OMG PENGUIN ESCALATOR!
ReplyDeleteMe and my sister had one, it provided whole afternoons of amusement. Loved it.
Alex, I think EVERYONE had one. Apart from me :-(
ReplyDelete*sniff*
I've never hard of the penguin escalator (maybe after my time), but I did have the record player in that pic! Great that they are bringing back some of the toys, they were fab. Some of the original, vintage versions now sell for incredible prices on Ebay (have been trying to buy a FP farm recently and been outbid lots of times by mad people).
ReplyDeleteOh yeah the Penguin Escalator I never had one but I did have a record player ...Memories !!!
ReplyDeleteI have however just bought my son a ChatterPhone for £4.99 for his first birthday (he really wanted it) not as robust as I remember but he looks so cute x
It makes me much happier to know that not *everyone* had a penguin escalator. Well done ladies.
ReplyDeleteI found a penguin escalator by accident on eBay when looking for something else! Will try and find the link.
ReplyDeleteLooks like they are still making them . . .

My oldest friend and I used to say that there are two types of people in this world: those who had a Mr Frosty and those who wanted a Mr Frosty. I was definitely in the 'wanted' camp. I still want my Mr Frosty, damn it!
ReplyDeleteMy brood had the chatter phone, clock and record player!!! One has started a brood 30 years on, must go have a rummage in loft if they are not there may have to buy some more to play with here!!
ReplyDeleteOh and I found some of the barber shop bits!!! Must find the recipe again for play doh!!!!
I was lucky enough to have a penguin escalator, but as is the way with these things, I really wanted a Mr Frosty! Love retro toy conversations - brings back so many happy memories....
ReplyDeleteI spent most of my childhood feeling as though I'd missed out on all the cool toys (never had a Mr Frosty, sob). I *did* however, have a penguin escalator. It was bloody marvellous.
ReplyDeleteIs that the way to make friends 'round here? Hmmm?
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't even hide me jealousy.
I LOVED the fisher price chatter phone, and so did my sis. So much so that she asked me to make her a cake version for her birthday which you can see here http://www.chiccakes.co.uk/2011/01/fisher-price-chatterphone/ I loved making this little guy and soo many people remembered him when I posted him on facebook x
