On the 10th day of Christmas, Domestic Sluttery gave to me ... fabulous fashion goodies from the V&A!
This prize contains all you need to look chic this Christmas time, taking inspiration from the V&A Museum's amazing fashion collection. We've two of their charming retro style books to give away: Christian Dior's The Little Dictionary of Fashion, which reveals all of the designer's timeless style secrets and Edith Head's How to Dress for Success, where the Hollywood costumier responsible for dressing the likes of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn gives her witty tips on how to get ahead through the way you dress. But that's not all. To add the all-important finishing flourish, we've also got a gorgeous hat box stuffed full of Berkeley Square's Natural Couture bodycare collection which was inspired by the classic elegance of the V&A's Golden Age of Couture exhibition. So no excuse for not looking (and smelling) totally hot at your Christmas party.
To win, all you need to do is tell us what you are planning on wearing this Christmas Day. Are you all about staying toasty in a pair of jim-jams? Or is it a special party frock to look sparkling on the day? Tell us in the comments before 8pm tonight and today you'll get an extra entry for retweeting if you're on Twitter. and we'll draw a winner at random and tell you who has won tomorrow.
Good luck everyone!
The small print (yawn): The competition will close at 8pm December 14th. This prize is only available to UK readers, sorry overseas people! You must also leave a name as well to make sure we know who you are! If you're anon your entry won't count, and they definitely won't count if you enter more than ones (we do check). Frances does indeed work for the V&A, she gets to play with this stuff all day, which sounds like fun. We're not allowed to enter our own competitions, but Frances will be wearing her special Christmas jumper until the day after boxing day and possibly after that too. We wish we could enter our competitions. Humph.
This Xmas, I will be clad in black cashmere and jersey trousers. Warm, cosy and stylish : )
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on wearing a gold lurex jumper that I bought from a charity shop years a go.
ReplyDeleteProbably with a black skirt and some opaque tights. Glitzy!
I've seen a red sparkly all over sequin dress which I plan to wear- I love red at Christmas! I'm thinking of having my hair in loose curls/tousles- not sure about the accessories or the shoes yet though! Maybe Santa will drop in here and take a hint?? ;) Shibani x
ReplyDeleteWell, I am hoping for either a leopard print coat with ears or ladybird style creepers for Christmas so I will be hoping to wear either of them!
ReplyDeleteI will be in skinny black jeans and a pretty teal green jumper with sparkly gems on the front which I picked up in H&M. It's not Christmas without a bit of sparkle!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to wear a gorgeous little grey dress with red flowers on that my sister gave me last Christmas. Cute but comfy...
ReplyDeleteI left it in my cupboard the last time I was home (Fool!), and I really want to wear it again. Unless Domestic Sluttery wants to give me a really glam dress and heels for Christmas....I'd love to dress up.
On Christmas day I like to go glam, I'm having my hair done on Christmas Eve and bought a new dress to wear. Although I did ruin my favourite silk stilettos a couple of years ago when I covered them in turkey juices whilst cooking, so this year I may do glam in slippers :)
ReplyDeleteMy fashion plan this Christmas it to stay in PJs for as long as possible, then spruce myself up with a leather skirt, Christmassy jumper and heals.
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing a gorgeous new red woollen dress, with a cowl neck, three quarter length sleeves and an empire line tie. It makes me feel a little like Mrs Claus!!
ReplyDeleteThat is as soon as I change out of my Santa pjs! :)
I am hoping to wear a lovely mustard dress from Miss Selfridge that I found about here! :)
ReplyDeleteJim jams for as long as possible, which will actually be until my mother shoves me towards the shower and makes me go for a loooong walk in the forest. This entails jeans, wellies and as many jumpers as I can fit under my coat..and a bobble hat, obviously. Then slinky print dress for dinner and pressies...with slippers ;)
ReplyDeleteFrom top down - I'll be wearing my red earmuffs, my warmest jumper (parents house in yorkshire is cold), little denim skirt, black tights x3 and my red wellies ready for a Christmas day walk and stomp in the snow.
ReplyDeleteMyself and my three house mates have decided to do 'Secret Stocking' outfits this year and each have to buy an outfit for just £10 for 'the name picked from the hat' and that person must wear the whole outfit ALL Christmas day. I am dreading it... I know how cruel we are as I have stitched someone up a treat with a large helping of double denim and an afro wig.
ReplyDeleteOn Christmas day I shall be wearing my Pearl Low Honey Crepe Cream Bow Dress with a granny apron to stop any gravy spillages!
ReplyDeleteI think that I'm probably going to be in thermals, if the weather forecast is anything to go by! I'd rather be in black velvet trousers with a bronze metallic jumper, though, although my husband will be in his dressing gown for most of the day, as it's just the two of us for Christmas. Yay! Roll on lush food and wine for us, and prawns for the kitteh!
ReplyDeleteI usually go for comfort as we stay in all day. However this year, Im off to my sisters and meeting new family so might glam up. Coloured tights are a must though!
ReplyDeleteThis Christmas I will be wearing riding boots and braving the cold to head down to the stables to help my sister muck out her new horse, Olivia.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely need some of the V&A's pampering products after that!
I am blessed not to have a mother like Bridget Jones, and always wear an outfit that my mum has bought for me on Christmas day. She has fabulous taste and has my style down to a tee. She hasn't disappointed yet!!

Hi all, I have a black velvet long-sleeved minidress from Dotty P which I've saved for the occasion - and as I will be safely tucked up in my mom in law's house in snowy Dundee, maybe I'll even bring a nice pair of heels to pair with it! Oh and funky jingle bell earrings ;)
ReplyDeleteMe and my boyfriend will both be in xmas jumpers! and I will wear sparkly leggings, boots and christmas earrings, my christmas tree brooch, tinsel in my hair and glitter eye makeup (which I never usually would wear but anything goes on xmas day!)
ReplyDeleteI'll be spending the holidays with a friend and her family so I need to get the exact balance of stylish yet casual. With that in mind, I'll be in a lovely sweater dress with thick black tights. Stylish enough to mark the holiday festivities and comfy enough to spend the day relaxing on the sofa drinking cava and watching musicals!
ReplyDeleteI'm having two Christmas days - one with my boyfriend and friends, and then actual Christmas day with my family. So, on Christmas day #1 I'll be wearing the be-yoo-tiful Vivien of Holloway dress that my boy has bought me for Christmas, although I may also bring pyjamas to my friend's house to change into post Christmas dinner 1. Then on the 25th I'm going to wear a dress I made earlier this year from the Chantilly pattern by Colette patterns. It's roomy and comfortable and has pockets, and I feel like a ballerina in it!
ReplyDeleteI've retweeted this as @dolly_clackett
This Christmas I will be wearing pj bottoms, vest and a big fluffy hoodie, all day. I may even just lie in bed and watch movies all day too!
ReplyDeleteFor a couple of weeks before Xmas, me and my dad engage in SS training. Stomach Stretching training maximises enjoyment by allowing you to fit a second plate of Xmas dinner down there. Problem is that it dictates a stretchy waistband. So I plan on jammies for as late as I can get away with and then jeans and a nice vintage top.
ReplyDeleteIf I get my way I'll be in my Jim-Jams all day. This is very unlikely to happen so I'll be doing a Nigella in the kitchen with my dark chocolate dress with vintage lace overlay - I've even bought a gold lace effect apron to complete the look. Just call me A Domestic Goddess
ReplyDeleteI bought a 1950s style full circle black and white polka dot dress and OTT red frilly petticoat ( http://tinyurl.com/2enqhlk
ReplyDelete)for maximum twirling to wear for my wedding this year on the basis I wanted something I could wear again and again on special occasions so I really will be rocking around the Christmas tree this year. I LOVE dressing up for Christmas.
I will plan on wearing something glam and glitzy and altogether fabulous. Then I will wake up on Christmas morning, think 'screw it', and spend the entire day loafing about in my bathrobe.
ReplyDeleteChristmas day I'll be wearing sparkly earrings and flour - because I always bake Xmas morning and can't not get the flour everywhere. The kitchen is usually such a disaster by the time I'm finished with it that I have to mop! (Mopping is way more fun after the first bottle of wine, by the way.)
ReplyDeleteI'll be wearing a comfy dress I think, nothing too sparkly but something a little smarter than jeans :)
ReplyDeleteI am going to be wearing a grey frock! 'grey' I hear you saying 'at christmas' Yes a grey frock, I tarted it up with loads of shimmery sparkles around the neckline in well a willy, nilly fashion, & it looks fabulous. Didn't think too hard about the design just did it and bam, got a designer frock! Can't be bad, paid £15 but now looks a million dollars!
ReplyDeleteThis will be my LAST EVER cold Christmas before emigrating to the other side of the world, so I'll be making the most of it and kitting myself out in a cashmere maxi dress (+obligatory tinsel earrings) for lunch, and then skinny jeans, wellies, christmas jumper (!) and faux fur cossack hat for an after-lunch walk (please please please snow!)
ReplyDeleteIn september i bought a beautiful vintage dress. I fell in love with it whilst glancing out of a bar window and seeing its immense beauty radiate through the shop front opposite. It is a green and cream polka dot 1950's dream of a dress and it was a bit small. The idea of wearing it on Christmas day has spurred my on to finally (!) loose a stone in weight. So on Christmas day not only will i look fabulous but i will also have a great sense of achievement.
ReplyDeleteI'll be wearing smart trousers and shirt, probably topped with a Christmas jumper!
ReplyDeleteI will be wearing my new red, christmas jumper dress, with thick tights. Plus to top the look, my apron. As i magically transform into domestic goddess for the day, and hopefully manage to cook christmas dinner for all the family.
ReplyDeleteWe have a tradition in our family to wear new clothes that we're given on the day, so I won't know what I'm wearing until I open it!
ReplyDeleteMy gran likes to knit, so I'll be wearing some ill fitting multicoloured creation. Last year, it had a reindeer pattern on my left boob.
ReplyDeleteI am planning on wearing a lovely warm jumper dress that my mum has bought me for christmas with nice warm tights. Of course this will be accompanied by the christmas paper hat from the christmas cracker, which is tatty by the end of the day from slipping all over the place.
ReplyDeleteI hope to be wearing a green and grey velvet dress. The only problem is that I haven't finished making it yet...
ReplyDeleteGoing away for Christmas, so on Christmas day will be wearing wine-red velvet dress ( from Etxart & Pano) with snow-boots ( quite a look...), as I have to push Mother in her wheelchair to church - and it's going to be cold in the Cotswolds!
ReplyDeleteI'll be kicking off the day in my PJs - there's something wonderfully decadent about sipping Champagne in PJs – and then, when I can temporarily drag myself away from the food and booze, I'll get changed into my current favourite dress which is dressy enough to make it feel special, but still cosy and comfortable for lounging around in.
ReplyDeleteI have a 9 month old, and a 200 mile journey on the day. Comfort is key, so will be clad in my Gap skinny jeans, with nice red cardi. However, paired with my first ever pair of heels...and I am 33 years old!
ReplyDeleteProbably Jeans, jumper and my bright green frog boot slippers :-)
ReplyDeleteI'll be tottering around in some fab wedge boots and a Little Black Dress while serving a turkey to a table full of hungry guests!
ReplyDeleteUsually I stay in my jammies, but this year I'll be wearing a dress. Not sure which dress yet, but definitely a dress.
ReplyDeleteEvery year I get new PJs and we're always allowed to open one present on Christmas eve and I always ask which one is my PJs and open them so I look nice for when Santa comes, then if I can get away with it I don't take them off again until Boxing Day.
ReplyDeleteJust something casual and comfy, so trousers and a warm flannel checked shirt - maybe a pink one.
ReplyDeleteOn Christmas I'll be in Denmark...so I think I'll just have to wear loads of clothes to keep warm! Not sure what...just loads of layers!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sda, I'm loving that striped hat box. We will be in Florida for Xmas Day and eating out too so we will be smart casual depending how warm it is. Last night it was about the same temperature as the Uk so gloves are being packed along with shorts.
ReplyDeleteThe morning I shall be sporting some pyjamas for as long as I can get away with - meaning that I will be half dressed as ever when the rest of the family arrive! Then I shall put on something a bit more dressy - torn between a lovely LBD (that will make me look stunning pre dinner and pregnant post), A vivian of holloway (boning, good plan or not?!) or an older more casual frock. Posh but not too posh and room to nap in post gargantuan meal - whatever I pick I shall accessorise with paper hat and glitter :)
ReplyDeleteIt will be pyjamas until lunchtime, then a red sparkly top and black skirt ready for Christmas dinner and the rest of the day :)
ReplyDeleteJim Jams for present opening, sparkly jumper, navy skirt, tights and boots for the pub (my family forgoes the traditional christmas lunch in favour of beer and a packet of peanuts) then a fancy frock for christmas dinner. Have been planning in makeing one in a cheesy christmas fabric, but am kinda running out of time! Have a pattern that I can make up pretty much in one day though, just need to get that one day free.
ReplyDeleteVintage flanalet PJs, then for a brief 2 hours my party dress - then it gets whipped off and back into PJs. It has become a bit of a Christmas tradition. It's the one day that I forego my addiction to fashion. Rx
ReplyDeleteI would love to Stay in my PJ's but as we are venturing to his Families i think i'll probably adorn a Superhero Tshirt and some Jeans cos if you cant be comfy as physically possibly on Christmas when Can you be Comfy?
ReplyDeleteEvery Christmas Eve we get to open one present and it's always Jammies, (so we look good for Santa Clause while he's filling our stockings with goodies) so I'll be wearing my brand new Christmas Eve pyjamas come Christmas Morning!

My best new dress, which i was a very lucky girl and had made for me when i was recently in Shanghai - once in a life time opportunity and all that! (and then can return home from festive meal, and say hello to a pair of favorite flannelet PJ's!)
ReplyDeletePenelope Patrick x x x
I'm planning on wearing my favourite 'round the house' slob uniform - i.e. my M&S velour trackie bottoms, t-shirt and cosy, warm Per Una dressing gown.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the number of hints I've dropped to Mr H is for Home, I'm hoping to top (bottom?) my look off with a brand new pair of Melin Tregwynt dotty house slippers!
I'll be wearing a jersey jumpsuit so that I can lounge around without flashing my knickers, but I'll dress it up with a big sparkly necklace. Then to top it off I'll be wearing a nice paper hat out of a christmas cracker, which will inevitably fall over my eyes when I fall asleep on the sofa so that I'll wake up in a blind panic at not being able to see anything.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Something else to worry about - this is my first hristmas for 7 years, and I've been thinking about presents, decorations and food, but never thought about what to wear!
ReplyDeleteI do have a gorgeous - and loose - long tunic top which I've not worn yet, so it could be that over a pair of comfy trousers I think!
Ideally one of my five sets of David & Goliath tees and 'lounge pants' (read:PJs).
ReplyDeleteFailing that, my new favourite clothing item - a long-sleeved grey knitted dress with a MASSIVE PENGUIN on the front!
Aces!
it's just going to me and my lovely boyfriend this year, so we'll be warm & cosy in our comfies! Joggers & hoodies, leg warmers & slipper socks! Perfect outfits for Christmas snuggles on the sofa :o)
ReplyDeleteI will be as stylish as ever in a pair of jeans and a jumper
ReplyDeleteI will be wearing a posh party frock covered with a sparkly christmas apron while I'm in the kitchen! :)
ReplyDeleteIn my family, we wear as many as possible of the clothes we are given for Christmas. Which means, at the very least, new pants and socks for most people!
ReplyDeleteI imagine that will be complemented by some sort of jumper from my gran (who has impeccable taste for a 78 year old!) ... but beyond that we shall just have to wait and see!
A jumper and jeans (though may have to change into tracky bottoms after xmas dinner due to expanding waistline!
ReplyDeleteI like to make an effort on special occasions. I've got a lovely red and white polka dot 50s style dress that I've been saving especially for Christmas day.
ReplyDeleteSince I'm cooking for 7 I will probably be wearing stuffing, some maple syrup, a number of gravy splashes and a side of vegan chocolate fudge cake. Hopefully Santa will bring me an apron on Christmas morning so I can keep my beautiful red dress clean.
ReplyDeleteIt's usually a special dress occasion when with my family, but since it's just me, boyfriend and wee doggy this year it'll be PJs all the way! His mum had a snuggly parrot pair I was coveting last week so am hoping to get them as a present and will be putting them on immediately!
ReplyDeletewooohoooo, lacy sparkly little black number for christmas day, 4 1/2'' heels, gotta make effort for santa baby xxx
ReplyDeleteChristmas is a day for wearing a lovely new dress, nice heels and staying in all day :)
ReplyDeleteThis Christmas Day I will donning a royal blue 80's vintage top clad with sequins and teamed with either black skinny jeans or black shorts over thick opaque tights. On top of this I will throw my Cath Kidston floral spray apron for cooking the Roast Dinner. Although by about 3pm I will probably be back in my jim jams to stuff my face with chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI'll be wearing scrubs on Christmas day. My mum will be in hospital over christmas so my dad and I will be spending the day with her.
ReplyDeleteI am planning on getting all dolled up BEFORE i get distracted by pressies - little black dress and some fab sparkly tights. May have the heels on for a bit but then resort to slippers :)
ReplyDeleteWe dress up at Christmas! I've been requested to wear the silver Vera Wang Lavender dress I picked up on sale a while back. Any excuse to feel pretty. :)
ReplyDeletePeejays for breakfast, then a lovely silk Warehouse skirt with a delicious petticoat (also helps hide Christmas dinner belly!) and a simple black top. Wooden platforms (5"?) or slippers, though..?
ReplyDeleteI intend to spend the whole day in my red fairisle onsie.... :D
