The Spanish Chocolate Company

I spotted The Spanish Chocolate Company yesterday whilst I was buying my dinner and was pretty taken aback by the bold claims. The thickest chocolate in the world! Like drinking chocolate! Well, that might be the case alongside dull supermarket hot chocolates. But the girls of Domestic Sluttery HQ are making a point to become experts in this field. So it seemed only right that we give it a shot.

They suggest using little teacups, with hot milk added to the powder (yes, powder). I'm pretty sure it would be easier to dissolve if you mix it on the hob instead. I also had to add an extra spoonful, just to make it as thick as they suggested it was going to be. There's now four spoonfuls in one tiny cup. Wowsers.

But it tastes excellent. It's not too sweet, it's not as powdery and sugary as I thought it was going to be. It's not as thick and luxurious as they state, but it's good. It's better than the line-up of hot chocolates in my local ASDA. The difference between this and the posh stuff? Well this is £3.98 which is around half the price of some of the fancy brands I've had. I think I'd play around with this and maybe make it more decadent with cream as well as milk, but I like it. It's not going to stop my search for the best hot chocolate, but I like it a lot.

  1. I loved this stuff when I was still living on UK soil. If you're feeling naughty, a splash of chocolate liqueur and another splash of rasberry liqueur make for a very yummy drink on cold, dark nights. MMM.

  2. I have heard from my brother-in-law that apparently in Spain it is a common confection to have a super thick hot chocolate with biscuits to dip into it. However, as the front page of this brand's website declares it to be the 'most thickest', I am boycotting on grounds of poor grammar.

  3. The thickest I ever used was Italian hot chocolate, which was very rich. I combined both once in a recipe. To hear my tale of woah check out:

  5. Hi, Spanish Hot Chocolate is the best and thickest, and here's a Spanish girl talking who has done enough travelling to know. But try REAL Spanish Chocolate (I guess the brand you name in the blog is British). I strongly recommend you the best real Spanish chocolate brand, Valor, check out the website: www.valor.es (there's an English version of it, click on the menu below). Its slogan is "Adult pleasure". Sounds good, huh? Enjoy!
