What are our secret guilty pleasures?

As much as The Domestic Sluts like good food, enjoy cooking and will treat ourselves to unusual ingredients we've never heard of just to find out what they taste like, we've also got our own guilty pleasures. Things that we should never admit to liking. Things that we tend to only indulge in when no one is around. These are our bad eating habits. Don't judge us.

Siany: I have so many guilty food pleasures. Eating slices of processed ham straight from the fridge is up there. In fact, the only reason I buy it is so I can do that. I don't even pretend it's going in a sandwich. But crisps are my weakness. I very rarely allow myself to buy multipacks of crisps. Squares specifically. They won't last an afternoon.

Sara: Pickled onion Monster Munch. Only ever at the end of a big night out when I fall off the night bus into my local corner shop, 50p in my hand and a wild look in my eyes. They're filthy and I love them.

Alex E: My ultimate guilty pleasure is a scotch egg, not a nice hand made one, oh no. The grotty supermarket variety. And unlike Sara, I don't even need alcohol to succumb, I eat these in broad daylight (as long as nobody's looking). They simply have to be cut into eigths and furtively dipped in tomato ketchup, which somehow seems to make the whole experience even dirtier.

Frances: I get the pork product thing too, though specifically cocktail sausages. They're the thing I usually buy when reduced in the supermarket, convinced that because they are marked down to £1 they are a good thing to buy. Somehow they always end up towards the top of my bag and a few, then a few more, may end up being gobbled up before I reach my front door.

Michelle: My biggest guilty pleasure is golden syrup and double cream on my porridge. It just feels so good to know that I am turning something so good for you into something so sweetly bad for you.

Abi: I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to love baked beans as much as I do, so they're probably my guiltiest pleasure. Beans on toast, beans on potato, beans with all kinds of foods that should really not be tainted by such lowly tinned products...I panic when I'm down to more than three tins. I'll certainly be in my element when the apocalypse comes!

Gail: my old flatmate introduced me to the everlasting joy of the sweet and salty combination, as embodied by a bag of crisps with a packet of Revels poured into it. Filthy, plus the dramatic food-roulette aspect of maybe getting the coffee flavoured one. Now I'd say it's probably pick and mix sweeties, specifically foamy bananas and shrimps. Drool.

What are your guilty pleasures?

  1. Crisp sandwich. Has to be Walkers Cheese and Onion, thick cut white bread and lots of butter. Soft, and crunchy. Divine.

  3. well i'm actually sticking to a diet at the moment so even warm fresh bread with unsalted butter and honey makes me drool. 8. Bombay Mix, I love the stuff. Seriously, I have a special container for it in my storecupboard; one of those airtight, plastic, pour+store things that normal people keep flour or breakfast cereal in.

  10. Umm, Green and Blacks Organic White chocolate with ready salted crisps. You just take a piece of chocolate and one crisp and pop them in your mouth at the same time. I guarantee it's yummier than it sounds.

  11. I agree that salad cream on anything is amazing, however my real filthy pleasure is something that my mother introduced me to...
A corned beef and salted crisp sandwich!

The bread has to be white and fluffy and smothered in butter, and then the corned beef goes on one side and you squish as many crisps as possible onto the other side.

It's so salty and soft and crunchy all at once... Mmmmmm

  12. Back when McDonalds' ice cream didn't taste like despair, I used to love their french fries dipped in a caramel sundae... ah the hedonism of childhood. Now I'll settle for salt and vinegar crisps munched alonside white chocolate zazzles :D

  13. I'm very naughty and have carrot sticks and humous. Jus' kidding. Chips, cheese and gravy! But instead of making the gravy as it tells me (4tsp to 1/4 pint or something), I put as many spoonfuls as I can fit in my jug and then put a dash of water in so it comes out as a gelatinous plate of brown on top of the chips. SO GOOD.
