I'm actually all of these, depending on what kind of day it is.
But the egg whites is always an issue up for debate. There's no middle ground with egg white cocktails. Either you like the frothy foamy goodness, or it'll make you feel a big queasy. People rarely feel indifferent about them.
If you're in the first camp, here's a recipe for a pink lady. I had one of these at the very swanky Milk & Honey last week and it was perfect. Light and frothy, but sharp and tangy from the gin. Pretty too. This is a lovely drink. If you like egg whites.
You'll need:
- 50ml gin
- 1tsp grenadine
- 1tsp cream
- 1 egg white
- juice half a lemon
Shake ingredients very well in a shaker with ice (extra well because you want foamy egg whites), strain into a cocktail glass, serve with a smile.

My mom grew up in a family where alcohol was rarely consumed, but she had a neighbor lady who liked a drink every now and then, always a Pink Lady. My mom looked up to this woman as an elegant lady.
ReplyDeleteWhen my mom began dating my father, she was still quite young and unworldly. One day he took my mom out with his brothers to a bar. She ordered a Pink Lady, the only drink she had ever heard of.
My dad's brothers took Dad aside and told him to dump her, since she was obviously a barfly!
Thankfully, Dad didn't listen and my folks were married for 64 years before he passed away at 92 last August. Mom still likes a Pink Lady every now and then.
