Recently I was asked to feature more unique hotels in the north of England, and I can see why. There are some lovely hotels in the North, but none of them have that special unique something that makes me want to pack a bag immediately. But Culloden Tower in Yorkshire does.
The tower was built in 1746 and it's had an extensive restoration since the Landmark Trust obtained it. By the sounds of it, it's had more than just a lick of Farrow & Ball. That room is pretty stunning, isn't it?
I can't pretend I like the colour of these walls, but if you can look past the bright green, check out the windows all around the bedroom. You're going to get some amazing views from here. And there's a peek at a very pretty ceiling too. You'll have to climb 66 steps to get to the top, though.
Rather cool steps they are too. At £800 for a three night weekend, the tower isn't cheap to rent, but it does sleep four so you're paying £200 per person for a very special trip away. You're even allowed up on the roof too. Now I can't wait to search for other unique travel spots in north England.
