Cocktail Hour: The Bennett

Since I wrote about The Bitter Truth's travel kit last week, I've been wanting to try some more interesting bitters. Some recipes that stop me habitually reaching for the Angostura. This Bennett recipe does just that. It's gin-based, but there's something a little margarita-ish about it too. Say what you like about tequila, if I was stranded on a desert island, I'd probably take ingredients for margaritas with me.

I hadn't heard of The Bennett until recently, but it sounds like the best of both worlds. Might make myself one this evening.

You'll need:
  • juice of half a lime
  • 50ml gin (old Tom gin was traditionally used, apparently)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of powdered or icing sugar
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters
Shake it!

Throw everything into a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with a little lime if you fancy it. Enjoy!
