Cocktail Hour: Strawberry-Balsamic Zinger

Some people drink balsamic vinegar neat for its health benefits, but I'm tempted to just because it's so ridiculously yummy. I've managed to stop myself from downing a bottle of the stuff by incorporating it into a delightful cocktail. That way, I also get strawberries, and lots of vodka. Hooray!

You'll need:

6-8 strawberries
A small cup of sugar syrup
1-2 tsp of balsamic vinegar
The juice of a lime
A measure of vodka, served straight from the freezer
A sprig of mint and some basil leaves, to garnish

Make it!

1. Push the strawberries through a sieve, and put the collected juice in a glass with the balsamic vinegar and lime juice.
2. The sugar syrup needs to be two parts sugar to one part water. Bring the water to the boil, then stir in the sugar until it is dissolved. Let the mixture boil for a couple of minutes, then allow to cool and thicken (I was impatient and put mine in the freezer).
3. Add the strawberry mixture to the sugar syrup along with a healthy measure of vodka.
4. Give the mixture a good shake/stir, and pour it over ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint leaves and some fresh basil.
