Sites We Love: Georgina M's Art-Inspired Outfits

I was a very lucky girl yesterday. I had a hideous attack of S.A.D. (first of the year - bang), but, entirely separately, a bunch of my friends kept finding me things I would really like on the net.

Via @Matt_Muir, my friend Sarah sent me a link to the incredibly gifted mind of an American graduate called Georgina M.

What Georgina has been doing for the last few years is creating outfits inspired by art work. They won't be exactly the same, but better: they capture the spirit, the thought, the look of the painting using modern clothing.

After the Young Queen Victoria

The images are gorgeous in themselves, right? Bloody hell, I could just look at them for hours. Oh wait. I did that yesterday.

But what's really cool is that when you hover on each outfit, Georgina shows you where each item's come from. It might be a Day and Mikkelsen dress, or a Forever 21 ring, or a necklace from Dorothy Perkins. So, if you like, you can put a similar outfit together yourself.

After Queen Elizabeth 1

I absolutely adore this Elizabethan post from three years ago. That's really all there is to say about that.

I love the way Georgina makes you think differently about clothes. I've always been one for playing around with colours and textures, (furs! Bring it on. And pearls with black silk shirts.) but she does it in such a joyful, clever way. Dressing up as becoming someone else, or at least inspired by something else.

You can easily waste an entire morning going through her archive, and she's still updating the blog regularly.

Thank you for the link Sarah, it really cheered up my day!

  1. I have just spent at least a couple of hours having a look. Amazing. I'd want to dress up then go and hang out in front of the actual painting in a gallery to see if anyone noticed.

  2. Fabulous idea, I can think of loads of paintings that would make great inspiration.

'Regal' is also Elizabeth I, when she was a young lass.
