Win! A free range turkey from Donald Russell
On the 3rd day of Christmas, Domestic Sluttery gave to me... a huge free-range Donald Russell turkey.
It simply wouldn't be Christmas without turkey. Whether you tuck in to a Pret Christmas sandwich, have a couple of slices at your work Christmas dinner, or you sit down with your entire family and get trashed and ruin the huge beast, at some point over Christmas you'll probably have some turkey. So it's handy that yummy meat suppliers Donald Russell are offering you guys the chance to win one. Hurrah! (Yeah, we're expecting a polite but out of obligation Christmas invite from whoever wins today).
You've got two chances to win today. Either leave a comment below telling us your favourite bit about Christmas dinner. Or! Tweet to win! Tweet something like "My favourite thing about Christmas dinner is..." and use the hashtag #DomesticSlutteryChristmas so we can see your answers! You can do both if you like, we're cool with that. Tweet more than once and we'll have to beat you to death with a frozen turkey. (By the way, if your favourite bit is the cranberry sauce, we're totally going to judge you. Cranberry sauce isn't food.)
You've got until midnight to win tonight (because we're going to be in the pub) so get entering and we'll tell you who won tomorrow.
Curious who won our last competition? You guys LOVE bit of Rob Ryan so there was a lot of entries! The winner was one Philippa Boston! Here's what she's eating on Christmas morning:
Bucks fizz and chocolate - then present opening probably with coffee and more chocolate!
Congratulations, Philippa! That sounds perfect. Just email us to claim your prize.
Mega good luck wishes to the rest of you entering today!
Oh yawn, small print (read it). The competition will close at Midnight on December 5th. You must be UK based AND leave a name with your comment so that we know who you are! If you're anon your entry won't count and if you enter more than once, we'll discount all of your entries and tell you off. If you take ages sorting out your prize, Donald Russell totally reserve the right to change your prize. If you've won one competition, let someone else have a bash and go and play with your toys! We're not allowed to enter our own competitions, but Siany wants to steal your roast potatoes.
My favourite bit about Christmas dinner is..... dessert
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about Christmas dinner is choosing wines for each course, then accidentally starting on them whilst I'm cooking and running out a course early. Many's the Christmas day dessert which has been accompanied by impromptu ginger wine or - on one shameful occasion - novelty ale...
ReplyDeleteThe Donald Russell turkey (if I am lucky enough) :-)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about Christmas dinner is boxing day, with leftover turkey and stuffing sandwiches for boxing day tea.! Yummy
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about Christmas dinner is... the trimmings to go with the turkey. I can't get enough of the homemade cranberry sauce and bread sauce, the chestnuts with the sprouts and the pigs in blankets... can't wait!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is... the turkey itself and homemade bread sauce. And crackers.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about Christmas dinner is my Mum's homemade sausagemeat and chestnut stuffing!! It is soo yummy and even though I am all grown up, have my own children and I am hosting Christmas dinner for 12 people this year.....good old Mum will still turn up with a huge tray of her finest homemade stuffing!!! Nothing beats your Mum's cooking!!! xxxx
ReplyDeleteMy favorite bit about Christmas Dinner is that moment when you realise you have had quite enough to eat...dinner side is full...but wine side still has room!
ReplyDeleteThe best bit about Christmas dinner is the little chunks of sausage meat wrapped in bacon. Just...gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about Christmas dinner is the EPIC sandwich made late in the evening with all the leftovers
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is pigs in blankets. At no point during the rest of the year do I even contemplate the double whammy of pork, yet during the festive season it seems to make perfect sense!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is eating lots and lots of yummy food with people I love.
ReplyDeleteThe turkey is good of course but for me it's nothing without the stuffing! I love sage and onion stuffing, I have to have a separate dish of it so there's enough :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is...my mum's stuffing, she's an amazing cook!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite part about Christmas dinner is the combo of bread sauce and cranberry sauce slathered over the Turkey. (This is only my second carnivorous Christmas after 20+ years of vegetarianism, so I'm still quite excited by Turkey..
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about christmas dinner is the turkey stuffing, just perfect!
ReplyDeleteVicky. Tedder
Sausages wrapped in bacon is probably the best element of the meal that's unique to Christmas, but I still don't think they're better than roast potatoes!
ReplyDelete- Ian
has to be the roast potatoes - the best part of any roast dinner YUM!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner, is the dinner! It's always a massive feast, there is something for everyone and it makes everyone happy!
ReplyDeleteThe best bit of Christmas dinner is the bit JUST before you eat. Paper crowns on everyone's heads, dinner looking awesome and a full glass of wine. I.CAN'T.WAIT.
ReplyDeletePotatoes roasted in goose fat.
ReplyDeleteTake the fatty treat that is the sausage. Then wrap it in a porky salty bacon jacket. And roast it. Nom nom nom.
ReplyDeletePigs in blankets are high on my list of delicious festive foods. And the sprouts. And the Baileys for breakfast.
I never liked sprouts until I discovered them lightly steamed, then rolled in sweet pureed chestnut - wow!
ReplyDeleteMy fav bit about christmas dinner has to be the turkey, no word of a lie, and picking off the skin just after it's cooked and eating it mmmmm also pigs in blankets come in a nice second :0)
ReplyDeleteRoast potatoes cooked in goose fat, every single time!
ReplyDeleteSophie
My favourite bit about Christmas dinner is ALL OF IT! I can't really choose - love the sprouts with chestnuts, love the stuffing, love the parsnips...

ReplyDeletePigs in blankets with a hearty chutney and dry sherry. FAB!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about Christmas Dinner is that my husband always makes it :) (and it tastes delicious)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about Christmas dinner is the sprouts!!! To be honest, I could just eat a big plate of sprouts on their own!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit is how Christmas dinner at my boyfriend's has developed over the years to include everyone's favourite food - so along with Turkey and sausages wrapped in bacon, there are also Yorkshire puddings and Skirlie and mashed potato (alongside the roasties) and apple pie for pudding.
ReplyDeleteSprouts that's my favorite bit - and this year they will be fresh from our own garden yummy!
ReplyDeleteThe best bit about christmas dinner has to be home made bread sauce! I put lashings of it on top of everything, my family think i'm insane because they don't like it, but they're just missing out :p
ReplyDeleteI love my Christmas pudding! I make it lovingly a few weeks before then it is flamed and partnered with my mum's perfectly delicious white sauce. It's the very best bit of the meal.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about Christmas dinner is that moment when all the food is on the table and you think you could die from the scrumptious smells, but you have to wait until you've pulled the crackers. Delicious anticipation!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite part of Christmas dinner is the stuffing...even when I'm full I still cant refuse a little extra stuffing!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner has to be the 'pre-Xmas Xmas dinner' I have with my friends every year on the weekend before (it's my last one this year before I move away for a Long Long Time... waaah!)
ReplyDeleteHigh points usually involve not having enough chairs, pigs in blankets, vats of mulled whatever-we-have-left-on-the-booze-shelf, and arguing over who gets the last bit of stuffing. Lovely :)
mmmmmm Roast potatoes mmmmmm Why do we not eat these every day?
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is actually spending ages decorating the table to make it look all festive and pretty to compliment the gorgeous food my boyfriend cooks.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about christmas is... Christmas Morning Breakfast of Christmas biscuits in your christmas PJ's that you're allowed to open on christmas eve (It's the law in my house) xx

Stuffing. Lots and lots of stuffing followed by more stuffing. yummmmm...
ReplyDeleteMy favourite part of christmas dinner last year was seeing my 2 and 3 year old boys tucking in and enjoying their feast. ReplyDeletefavourite bit is seeing the arrival of a fully loaded plate of Christmas bird followed by plates of seasonal vegetables, chestnut puree, cranberry sauce and more at the dining table
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is - believe it or not - the making of it. For the last few years I've been sole in charge of the dinner for me & my other half and as much as the feminist in me rails against it, I love doing it, it has to be the most satisfying meal to cook and present to the people you love most. And of course everything tastes better when you know you can pass the washing up on to those that didn't cook!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is the roast potatoes. Yum!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit about Christmas dinner is when all the prep is done and the turkey is in the oven, taking a lovely stroll to the pub to meet friends for a few glasses of something festive. Then coming home to that delicious aroma and dinner only being 40 mins away. Just enough time to get the roasties in and open the wine. Perfect !

ReplyDelete(Sorry! my AOL sign in did ^^^ that. EEK!)
Same bit as for any meal: the PUDDING! I don't like Christmas pudding so I make my own mini chocolate pudding topped with Baileys and cream!
ReplyDeleteI'm most looking forward to the pre-Christmas dinner drinks - I've prepared a spiced Christmas vodka, which when served warm should get everyone in the mood for a jolly day. Failing that, the Baileys cheesecake should put a smile on my face! :D

ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is jokes.......Who is never hungry at Christmas ?
ReplyDeleteThe turkey - he's always stuffed and me hopefully with this hot bird.
Its a toss up between enormous spoonfuls of bread sauce plonked all over the turkey or the enormous stilton my mother buys each year and then takes about a month to eat. That or the wheel of brie (partly because it is a WHOLE WHEEL) and the way it gets more mobile and gooey as Christmas week goes on.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is without a doubt; Pigs in Blankets. We are a large family but that's still no excuse for the amount we make :D
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Christmas dinner is having roast potatoes made really crunchy cooked in fat, instead of faking it with healthy ones cooked in a couple of sprays of Fry Light like we do for the rest of the year!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bit is are the best roast potatoes and I'd like to share a top tip - use your turkey fat hot from the oven to baste your par boiled potatoes and cook hot or for veggies use Trex heated in the oven in the same way. ReplyDeleteMy favourite part of Christmas dinner is pudding afterwards.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite part of Christmas dinner? The second part. The evening bash at my second mothers where here entire extended family and few waifs and strays, myself included, all end up at her house. She puts on a huge spread of turkey, ham (covered in Dijon mustard!!mmm), roast spuds, spring rolls, bhajis and profiteroles etc - so much more!!!. If you get up from your seat, you've lost it for good. She took me in a few Christmas's ago after I had a rather large row with my biological family. Since then I always go to hers if it gets too much. The door is always open and she treats me like her own flesh and blood.I'd give her the turkey just so there's enough to feed us all and more.
