Sluttery Travels: Lumley Castle, County Durham

It's been a while since I've featured a castle on Sluttery Travels. Mainly because my Rapunzel fantasies are put on hold when I see the prices. Castles don't usually come cheap. Surprisingly County Durham's Lumley Castle does come cheap. The 73 rooms start at just £55 for a single and you can get a double for £105 at the moment.

The hotel is 20 minutes away from Newcastle and the grounds are gorgeous.

I'm always going to have a bit of a thing for a four-poster.

Even the smaller rooms are pretty. Green walls are doing it for me, who knew?

The restaurant serves up traditional British grub that's original enough to be interesting (I don't want to say 'modern twist', I think they're better than that).

The website is full of excellent deals. Dinner and a room with breakfast the next day is just £175 per couple when you stay on a Friday night. That's a bargain for such a beautiful hotel. It's not often you get to play in castles for cheaps, go and book immediately.
