Design Porn: Miho Unexpected Things

I'm firmly of the opinion that woodland animals should be frolicking in the forests, not stuffed and mounted on a wall of a gamekeeper's lodge. Seeing those poor stag heads make me pretty glum.

Super bene Italian designers Miho celebrate a love of nature with an ironic little twist: deer heads in delightful floral, outdoorsy designs. They're even made from eco-friendly materials, so they're double the lovely.

The patterns are inspired by Italian textiles and I absolutely love the way they mix and match designs to give their pieces an extra vibrant twang. They also mix up the antlers a bit by using branches or flowers instead.

Of course, this means there's far too many beautiful variations to show you, but my favourite is this Flower Blow Up Roe Deer Head

I also love this Purple Branch Deer Head with it's gorgeous, fluid fish pattern. Both of these fellas are only £29.

They also do these amazing wall-mounted bird houses. They're not actually for the birdies - you have to keep them indoors - but they're equally sunny and cheerful. This is the Playmates Birdhouse - most of the houses only have one 'occupant' but here you get an extra tweety friend for your money.

This one is called the Romantic Resort Birdhouse. It looks like this little guy is waiting for a feathery companion with some flowers. N'aww.

Both of these houses are £29.00 too, and I found them at Cotswold Trading.

  1. These are lovely 'in real life' too - I saw them at The Baltic at the weekend and was definitely tempted by a deer head!

  2. I want all these so much! I saw the bird houses at the V&A a while ago but the boy hates them....I really do need my own 'girls only' room to put such things in!
I just love that they are flat-packed and all mis-matchy.
