Sluttery by Post: The Gluttonous Gardener

My mum has always been a bit of a gardener. I grew up eating strawberries and sugar snap peas that had grown in our back garden in summer, I remember a rhubarb plant growing in our very first house. Sometimes there would be bean sprouts growing in the airing cupboard. My granddad used to grow radishes and broad beans, and tomato plants in the greenhouse. To this day, I can't eat radishes without grinning.

Yet I can't grow a damn thing. I'm hoping a little delivery from The Gluttonous Gardener might help me. They turn their plants into a gift, and they're all for cooking - I'm always more likely to grow stuff that I can eat.

Fresh mint tea is one of my favourite things (and the world's best hangover cure). This Moroccan mint tea crate comes with your very own Moroccan mint plant, and you get those lovely glasses as well.

I adore Thai food and this little Thai crate is fantastic. Asda never has kaffir lime leaves, so why not grow your own? I have no idea if the fish sauce will be any good, but the palm sugar is a lovely addition.

I really want an orangery! This crate comes with two plants - one lemon tree and one Calamondin orange tree. I'd make everyone excellent cocktails if I had this.

The Gluttonous Gardener crates are gorgeous gift ideas. Prices are kicking around the £30-50 mark, but they're all so lovely. I'm lucky to have a garden in London, I'm going to start using it. Kicking off with that fig tree.

  1. Brilliant! We were looking at Moroccan Mint plants at Columbia Road Flower Market....then it started to rain. Really want that set...why buy just a plant when you can have it and those glasses delivered?!

  2. Sally from The Gluttonous Gardener here, so lovely to read this wonderful post from you! It is always lovely to stumble across blogs which are about our gifts especially when they are as complimentary as yours!

We would say that a fig tree is a good choice, they are looking fantastic at the moment and so I'm sure you would be delighted with your choice, the fig jam it comes with is amazing also!

Thank you again from everyone at The Gluttonous Gardener

    1. Oh you're welcome, Sally! I know I'm tempted by the fig tree, but housemates would truly love me if we had an orange tree. Also, lemon tree = more whisky sours for me.

  3. Oh Siany Siany Siany
We love to eat Al Fresco
    And cook up fresh ingredients
From Mother Nature’s version of Tesco

Your post today was a delight to read
It painted a picture with words that was pretty
Which is why we’re returning the favour
By attempting to write you a ditty

At Bosch we’ve admired your work from afar
    And the domestic slut legacy
    Frances, Alex, Sara, Gemma
    You, Sarah and Selina C

Together you all keep us smiling
With your tales of modern living
Your shameless tales and honest wit
Are gifts that just keep on giving

Cheating your way to the good life
Is a slogan we all should share
So at Bosch we make appliances
That hopefully show how much we care

    Our fridges stand with pride
Stocked with recipes from your site
    Our blenders whirl with pleasure
Making your cocktails to drink at night

Bit did you know that as you sleep
We’re protecting the world like no other
    Our security systems are everywhere
(They were even used on Big Brother)

    Our engineering expertise
    May also heat your shower
    Our gardening prowess helps cultivate
    Each and every flower…

That grows within your Gluttonous Garden
    And inspires you to bake
A book so full of recipes
    Of heaven-scented cake

    This poem’s getting long now
We’ve been at it for a while
We can’t compete with your writing skills
That you display in the Sunday Times Style

    Like you, we’re also fans
    Of daisies, tea and giraffes
Which is why we read Domestic Sluttery
To guarantee our daily dose of laughs

    Thank you lovely Siany
For making us smile every day
We hope you liked this comment
And that you’ll let it stay

Your tip for hangovers was appreciated
    Mint tea… Shhh… don’t make a sound
Just keep nursing your headache, whilst
In the meantime, Bosch is All Around (http://bit.ly/BoschUK)

Hope you enjoyed that (come on over and say hello on Facebook or Twitter)!

    1. For the record
      We'd love to state
      That @katbrown82
      Is also great...

      We read her reviews
      Of films in The Lady
      When we stand beside her
      We're left feeling shady

      Because she's so tall
      An elegant ostrich
      The classiest woman
      This side of Ambridge

      So we left her out
      Of the poem above
      Just so that we could
      Give her some separate love
