Scenes of Sussex: five awesome artworks

As I mentioned yesterday, I tend to associate trips to Sussex with all sorts of vintage delights. I'm certainly not alone in this: the timeless delights of the county are celebrated in sorts of retro artworks. I've somehow managed to whittle the huge number of prints available down to just five of my favourites.

Let's start with this gorgeous 50s style print from Kelly Hall. It's from Castor and Pollux, one of the best shops to visit in Brighton as it's right on the seafront and very handy if it starts to rain AND stocks brilliant things. This print celebrates the sunnier side of Sussex and will cost you £60.

It's like Sean Sims saw my mental shopping list when he designed this print. Encouraging you to Visit North Laines, it's just one from his wonderful 60s-styled series, The Brighton Line. This design costs £55 or you can see the full range at Brighton Pod.

If you're talking vintage, this print from the London Transport Museum Shop reproduces the genuine article, featuring a design by Victor Galbraith dating to 1959 listing some of Sussex's fine seaside attractions. And featuring a giant pink fish. An A4 print will cost you £9.95.

Hastings definitely has the seaside thing ticked: it's also got late night crazy golf and the helter skelter and swan pedalos pictured in this design by Andy Tuohy. He's done a whole series celebrating Sussex, all done in a similar retro style. His prints are on the pricier side, costing between £90 and £160.

And to finish with a bit of Art Deco class, here's the stunning De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sea.  Constructed in 1935, Dave Thompson's print plays up its modernist appeal. This bright and breezy number costs £24.
