Sussex Design: Alison Milner

Alison Milner is a bit of a designer extraordinaire. As an expert surface designer, Alison has turned her creative hand to ceramics, furniture, textile and prints offering beautiful elegant designs. Based in Sussex, she has collaborated with big name brands such as Habitat and Royal Doulton, as well as curating exhibitions of her work at venues across the UK.

The wooden stools above featuring floral motifs are a common theme in Alison Milner's work which demonstrates an understanding of the natural world and seeking to present a simply stylish interpretation on every day items.

I particularly like these white blue vases with the ferns. I am in the market for a vase or two. At the moment my oversized mason jars are not quite cutting it.

And I don't think I will ever get bored of a Formica table, especially one with atomic legs. Top one of these off with an Alison Milner surface print and I am sold! The stacking option here looks particularly inviting. Now, I just need to plan a way to sneak more furniture into my house without the boyf noticing.

As if Alison didn't have enough feather's in her hat, there is also a book called 'Inspirational Objects: a visual dictionary of simple, elegant forms'. The book features photographs of over 240 objects designed to provoke the viewer into questioning forms and how they feel about them. I think it sounds fascinating and would offer a great insight into how the author is inspired.
