My trips to Sussex always seem to end up with me struggling to carry huge bundles of eagerly purcahsed second-hand goodies back on the train. Brighton's Beyond Retro and Snoopers Paradise, Rye's cute antique shops or Hastings Old Town: Sussex seems to have plenty to tempt a vintage magpie like me.
Of course, the joy of the internet puts at least some of those treasures just a click away and means my fellow travellers and I are spared the pain of an uncomfortable train journey home. Here's my favourite bits of vintage fashion I've found that are currently on sale at Sussex shops:
I'd love to head for the Sussex coast in this sailor dress. Still with its original label which says it was Made in England by Elita Ltd, this dress is £35 from Lewes-based Wooden Hill Vintage. It looks like there is plenty of room to allow for eating ice cream too.
Brighton is well known for its many vintage retailers. To Be Worn Again was new to me, and has a vast collection to pick from. My favourite is definitely this pretty 1950s yellow L'Aiglon dress, currently reduced to £65. All size 8s should start fighting for this now.
Want some shoes to go with that? The perfect pair for dancing comes courtesy of Tramp Vintage and these gold shoes. They're yours for £27, if you can work out the measurements (heel to toe is 24cm)
If you're in the mood for some bonkers clothing, this 1970s bambi playsuit from Brighton-based Wolf and Gypsy on Asos marketplace is especially wonderful. It's covered with an amazing pattern of fawns leaping. It's one for the brave and I'll be extremely jealous if you can pull it off. It's £48.
Far easier to wear is this patterned 1960s number from Worthing's Glisten Vintage. Complete with pussy-bow neckline, it's perfect if you're a fan of the Mad Men sexy secretary look. It'll be yours for £45.
Finally, to finish off the look, surely all of Hasting's best dressed ladies will be applying vintage Biba make-up from their Little Treasures boutique? Well, I'm not sure about the concept of vintage make-up but the packaging is typically Biba stylish and, for prices that start at £1, it's probably what my dressing table has been missing.
