Notebooks for NaNoWriMo

I may or may not be doing NaNoWriMo next month (that's National Novel Writing Month, kids). I haven't decided yet. On one hand, spending and entire month writing sounds fun and soon it'll be far too cold to go out anyway. On the other hand, I've got a trip away, I'm turning 30 and moving house. November probably isn't the month to start thinking about writing 50,000 words just for kicks. Despite that, I now have an idea, and a title and a little plan forming in my head. So just in case I stupidly decide on the 31st October that NaNo is a brilliant idea, I'm on the look out for a new notebook to get me started.


Those sari notebooks have been calling my name for a while now. Some of the fabrics are up to 25 years old. They're from Nkuku and £12.95 each. But they don't have lines, and I am a margins and lines kind of girl when it comes to notebooks, so the search continues.


This Christian Lacroix notebook isn't ruled either, but it's such a gorgeous, blinding shade of green that I've totally forgotten about that. My words will have to be wonky. It's £15 from the V&A.


This is a nifty little notebook (and I love the ticket design). It's more like a jotter, with an expandable file for you to add your goodies to. This is very handy if you're a 'notes and doodles all over the damn place' kind of writer. It's £5 from Paperchase.


Working on lots of ideas all at once? Then this little Alphabet notebook set from Liberty is ideal (and there's a numbers set as well). One has a grid, one is lined and one is plain. You can make all sorts of plots and schemes with these. They're £8.95.


Obviously a giraffe who likes maths is going to help me write thousands of words. Obviously. This notebook is from Noodoll and it's £8.


I'll level with you: if you don't want a notebook with a badger in a beret on the front cover, then I don't think we can be friends. These are by Darling Celementine and they're £4.50 each from Folly Home. Pick the badger.

    Swoon at the lovely notebooks! I am wavering whether to do NaNo or not, I have failed every year and am already thinking this year I will fail too and it hasn't started yet! Surely it doesn't hurt to get a notebook just in case...

    I love the little giraffe! As weird as it sounds, I need something cute on the front of notebooks to make me get that fuzzy feeling opening them. Plain moleskines just don't really do it for me.

    I'm hoping to do NaNo, and if I do I'll definitely be 'pantsing' it. I just have one very simple and unplanned idea, so maybe once I get into it I'll be able to use a pretty notebook to do separate character monologues and keep track of plots.

      I think I'm going to start writing, and actively push on with my idea. But 50,000 words is unlikely. I imagine hangovers are worse after 30, and I'm going to find out.
