One of my oldest friends! (Both the man, and the fur tippet) |
I bought mine from H&M years ago, and they're so popular they keep bringing them back each winter.
This black fake fur collar is now £5 in the sale, and if you have a look in store, you're sure to find the burgundy and (the one I have) powder beige ones which are sold out online.
Over on Folksy, Emanuelle Iapeyre in Manchester designs and makes these absolutely ravishing ribboned collars. This black and grey one is my favourite: I love the ruffled edging, that gives it quite the Little Princess look. It's a distinctly un-princessy £16.
If your neck is already quite warm enough thank you, and you just fancy something for your coat, this one from ASOS (ah, good old ASOS) is a) massive and b) comes with a nice hook and eye fastening to keep it all demure. It was £24 and it's now £16.50. Really: fixing a cheapo collar to your coat can completely transform your look: viz my craftily-gifted friend Jessica. Smile for the camera Jessica!
What a sexy face.
That's yet another H&M collar, which she sewn onto an old coat to zjuzh it up. I think you'll agree she's succeeded! (FYI, that bizarre wintry stag in the background? TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED QUID. I know! What the actual hell!)
If you'd rather not have ends to bother about fixing (I've pinned mine with an old diamante brooch) then this number from Coast (was £55, now £35) is just beautiful. This would look sensational with a really vivid coat, or to jazz up a jumper and skirt.
Happy tippeting, and stay warm!
I love these on other ladies, but am convinced they make me look like Henry VIII. Alas... X Laura
ReplyDeleteI think that's a pretty good look to aspire to.
DeleteOh but my doublets are divine... I should probably just embrace it.
DeleteI dug mine out my black h&m one this morning and teamed it with a black fluffy hat. The guy I've had my eye on for ages said I looked like a Russian princess, result! I think - that's good, right?
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic! And lo, the glory of the tippet (and specifically the H&M tippet) was all around.
DeleteThis is so timely- I lost mine (£3 in the H&M sale about four years ago, l) at Westfield yesterday, Wish I'd gotten round to installing the extra hook and eyes I was planning for years... Have ordered the Asos one, but might have a further look around. It was so wonderful and versatile!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I wore mine with a houndstooth skirt and a pink lace vest for a quicko costume at a 30s dinner party once. Astonishingly versatile, particularly given you first look at them and go "But...so posh!" The warmest thing in my wardrobe.
DeleteReally pleased to see you promoting fake fur this time around. Big thumbs up!
ReplyDeleteOh & H&M are the best! Last year I bought a tippet that had a fox head & tail on the ends (it kinda looks like I'm wearing a long teddy bear but I love it!)
Thanks JenJen - glad you like this one more, and apologies if you were offended by the use of vermin. This sort of fur is insanely warm without the dubious backround - I love the sound of your foxy teddybear too, I hope it has a name!
