Sluttery Travels: Dog-Friendly Boutique Hotels

When Hazel came back from Sussex all excited about The Gallivant and their dog Camber, I decided that we needed more dog-friendly hotels. Not hotels that tolerate dogs for a hefty fee, but the hotels that really welcome them as part of your stay. I also think we need more excuses for brilliant dog photos on a Friday.

This is Camber. You can borrow him for walks on the beach. (Yes, you have to return him, even though he's the best dog ever.)

Combe House, Exeter. I'm trying not to imagine Fenton scenarios from that photo, but I don't think the horses are running about like that all the time, it was purely for photography purposes. Combe House is totally dog friendly. And your mutt will even get a canine holiday pack, complete with walks in the area that they might like. Like those colouring book packs that kids get, but cuter. You can stay for £179 a night, pooches can stay for an extra £10 a night.

Cliveden House, Berkshire. Look at that dog and his MASSIVE STICK. Cliveden is such a gorgeous hotel. And your doggy gets the run of the grounds! Dogs are totally spoiled at Cliveden, they've even got their own special menu which includes fillet steak. Fancy. The rest of the hotel is lovely, and there's a doggy holiday package for £198.50, you get a gorgeous room and breakfast, your pooch is properly pampered with his own bed, bowl and treats.

The Whitehouse, Devon. The Whitehouse have pets, so while dogs are welcome they'll need to get on with others and not be over excited by cats - there's a resident Siamese. Rooms (like that gorgeous one pictured) start at £190 and include breakfast. Dog rates are a tenner a night, with bedding, bowls and towels.

Trigony House, Scotland. This isn't just a dog-friendly hotel, Trigony is basically a hotel for dogs that also happens to welcome people. Dogs get a welcome pack (and a letter from Kit and Roxy, the canine residents). Trigony like dogs so much, they've compiled their own list of dog-friendly hotels. Rooms (for humans) start at £110 a night. Woof!

The Milestone, London. Look how happy this dog is on his four-poster bed! It's not easy to find a hotel in London that accepts dogs - countryside manors, absolutely. But boutique city hotels tend to shy away from them due to not having that much space. The Milestone isn't just dog friendly (seriously, they've practically got their own concierge), it's also cat friendly. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAT ON HOLIDAY. THAT'S BONKERS.

Broadoaks, Lake Windemere. A lot of Lake District hotels are dog-friendly, but Broadoaks seem to go a step further. They love dogs so much they've got a dog guest gallery! The owners have a Cockapoo called Molly (she's adorable) and every pet-friendly room has a paw print on. Pups also get a three course meal. And breakfast. But they're not allowed in the restaurant There is a caveat that says 'unless they're wearing suit and tie', but this is definitely tongue in cheek and I don't think you're allowed to put a bowtie on your dog to gain him entry. You can, of course, do this and send us photos.

Summer Lodge, Dorset. Oh that little dog is so cute! I want that one. Oh, right. I'm meant to be telling you about the hotel, not window shopping for puppies. Summer Lodge is actually part of the same chain as Cliveden so they love everything on four legs. Your pup can stay for £20 a night, and for an extra tenner you can even arrange dog sitting and walking. And yes, dogs get their own fancy dinner menu. Erm, can I have a dog for my birthday please?

Space for one more brilliant dog photo? Always. This is the brilliant dog Kat met on the way to Edinburgh. There must be loads more dog-friendly hotels in the UK, tell us where they are so we can go and meet all of the dogs!

The first two dog images were taken by Hazel, the last one was taken by Kat.

  1. 42 The Calls in Leeds is dog friendly - they laid out a lovely bed and bowls and a few treats for Goose when we went to stay recently. Not ideally located for walks there but a great City location.

  2. Go meet Oliver the black Labrador at the Four Seasons Hampshire. he has a bed and toys by the massive fireplace in reception and lords it over new guests upon check-in. Very cute.

    1. Awww, now you've put it like that it sounds cute. All curled up on an amazing bed, ordering room service, sneaking Ambridge bits of smoked salmon.

      It's still bonkers.

    2. Aw, love the Sluttery cats, but I am a dog-owner too! She's called Lottie, she's a golden retriever, I've never seen anything dribble as much AND she knows to bring me a toy when I'm feeling grumpy. Dog love! And now dog-friendly hotel love.

  7. Our Millie had a great doggie holiday at the Marine Hotel Paignton. Her humans are getting on a bit so a downstairs room was ideal
