The National Gallery's Artistic Bouquets

Give The National Gallery a prize. Their new flower bouquets are inspired by famous paintings. Yep, they've got Van Gogh's sunflowers all wrapped up. It's beautiful, isn't it? But that's not where their inspiration ends. Let's take a look at some of the other bunches.

Sassoferrato's 'The Virgin and the Child' provided the colour palette for this bunch. Each bunch comes with a card depicting the painting. That's handy because I'm not sure I'd know what it looked like off the top of my head (don't pretend you knew, we're not on University Challenge).

Created to reflect Dutch still life paintings popular in the 17th and 18th Century, this is a really beautiful bunch (even if I don't care for straw baskets). It's seasonal so the flowers will change, but the key aspect is the layering throughout that's a key aspect of the painting style.

This is definitely my favourite bouquet - the dusky pink roses and thistles are beautiful together. It's inspired by Leonardo's 'The Virgin of the Rocks'. I love the blue bow, but you can also get them delivered in a pewter vase.

'Surprised! Tiger in a Tropical Storm' is a brilliant, brilliant name for a painting. (One that I hadn't heard of until today, apparently it's by Rousseau). This exotic bouquet has orchids, berried ivy and brilliantly there's something called kangaroo paw. They're those little red flowers you can see, the buds do indeed look like little curled kangaroo paws. Adorable (horti)culture, right there.

Prices for the bouquets start at £35, and if you order before 2pm they'll be delivered in 48 hours. I think I'd rather one of these than a bunch of red roses on Valentine's day.
