Shop in the Spotlight: Dig For Victory

I didn't think there was any space left in my heart - or room in my wardrobe - for another retro style dress after the mighty independent clothing brands round-up. How wrong I was - there's always space in my heart (if not my wardrobe) for retro frocks. Especially when they are as gorgeous as Dig For Victory.

Dig For Victory was featured a few years ago on the site, but I haven't paid them a visit for a while. They've been busy: they're bigger and even better than before and, if you're visiting Brighton, you can now visit their physical shop. All the designs are the creations of Eleanor Callaghan. You can buy off the peg, or get each frock made-to-measure for a mere £25 extra, which offers amazing value.

While the individual prices may be higher than a high street frock - both the two tone tea dress at the top of this post and this gorgeous high waisted tea dress are both £115 - you definitely get what you are paying for. As all the dresses are made using vintage and end of the roll fabrics, each design is, by default, very limited. No 'hilarious' bumping into someone at a party wearing the same dress as you with these.

Dig For Victory's designs range from neat office appropriate dresses to dresses that demand to be taken out dancing, such as this striped swing dress, again £115.

And, while the dresses are obviously vintage-influenced, designs such as this nautical swing dress don't feel like they've been lifted straight from a dressing-up box.

These are classic shapes with lovely details - this grey cotton tea dress is all the more special for its lace panel.

While this black grosgrain dress takes it up its already great shape and fabric an extra glamorous notch with its sparkly gold piping. It's £125 but it'll have a happy place in your wardrobe for many years to come.

This luxurious dupion silk and lace is suggested as suitable as an alternative wedding dress and, at £155, it'll put many far more expensive numbers to shame. In fact, the whole of Dig For Victory would be an excellent place to look if you wanted something a little bit different to wear to a wedding whether you are the bride, a bridesmaid or merely (but very importantly) a guest.

Dig For Victory specialise in dresses, which they do brilliantly. There are a few separates however, such as the bolero section - beautiful complements to the sleeveless numbers. I love this Wild Rose bolero jacket so much I'd be tempted to try it with a T-shirt and jeans. It's £49. And skirts too - predictably my fancy has been taken by the Posing cats pleated skirt, along with just about everything from this site. If ever I wanted/needed justification for getting a whole new wardrobe, Dig For Victory is it.

  1. Loooooove these dresses. They are such a flattering shape. I'd love to live in the 50s and just dress like this every day! :-)

I discovered your blog tonight through HIBS100, and I love it. Beautiful photography and content.

I'm fairly new to the blogging scene, so am just building my networks. I write a frugal living blog, and I'd love it if you popped over to say hello. :-)
