As Patrick Swayze uttered on learning Baby's real name in Dirty Dancing, 'Frances, that's a very grown up name'. Though I've always really liked my name, in films and books it has fared less well. In stories, it's either the name of a good but geeky type (like Baby) or it's the name of a nun. Come across a Frances in an Agatha Christie novel and you can bet your bottom dollar she's the one that did it. Thankfully, I think its reputation may be about to change, courtesy of a pair of shoes.
Topshop are currently selling the so-called Frances
stud sandals. If Topshop wants to call a pair of shoes my name, that must make it pretty cool, right?
And, even better, I actually really like the sandals. They come in pretty coral or blue leather that's toughed up with metal studding. I know it's still really cold outside but I can already picture wearing them in the sunshine, my brightly coloured toenails peeping out of the end. They're affordable too at £35.
But the shoes that bear my name aren't mine yet. In a cruel twist of fortune, at the time of writing, the sandals aren't available in my size. So, dear Topshop, please can you get them back in stock in a size 38? That will make this Frances a very happy girl and I promise that I'll do their name proud.
