Cocktail Hour: Hot Toddy

Bluergh. That's basically the only sound I can muster right now. I've been sick for days now. All gross and sneezy. I've even lost my voice. Lemsip stopped working ages ago and chicken soup isn't cutting through whatever yucky germs are marching their way through my unhappy little body. So I need something a little stronger. As with most problems, booze can provide a solution.

I need a hot toddy.

The hot toddy solves everything. It's warm, so it's comforting. It's soothing because of the honey and lemon is all full of vitamin C. And the whisky? Well that'll send you into a little sickly fuzziness and that feels wonderful. I added a kick of ginger to mine just for good measure.

You'll need:
  • 25ml whisky
  • hot water
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1tsp minced ginger
Shake it!

Actually, there's no shaking. You're too sick for that. Instead add the lemon juice, ginger, whisky and honey to a mug and mix well. Top up with hot water. Now back to bed with you. Take your magazines with you, and hide away until you're all better.

  1. I think I want to get sick JUST so I can drink this now.

  2. So you end up drinking bits of ginger? I hate any drinks with bits in, so might try steeping chunks of ginger instead.

  3. Oh, and GET WELL SOON, most importantly!

  4. You could cut of a slice and put that in there instead. I wasn't really in a state to be steeping anything yesterday :-(

  5. I'll be mixing one of these up later to try and help cure my lost voice!

  6. Sara, I completely misread that as "I hate any drinks with booze in" and almost fell off my chair.

  7. I semi squash a knob of ginger so it's easily sih-out-able when I make toddy. Get well soon!

  8. Will ground ginger do? *feeling beyond lazy*

  9. I used a wee bit of stem ginger and the syrup from the jar and it worked a treat!

  10. My tip: add a few cloves for a wee numbing kick

  11. Had another one before bed last night and I'm nearly all better. Sneaking booze into sickliness is FUN.
