These days, I probably read food blogs more than recipe books. I've never been the biggest fan of food blogs that cover restaurant reviews - I prefer to go somewhere and try it for myself (except for the Italian restaurant in Greenwich that has had bad reviews for the decade I've lived here and is somehow still open). Instead, I want my food blog to have glorious photos and recipes that I dream of trying out for myself.
That, in a nutshell is Bourbonnatrix Bakes.
I like that Miss Bourbonnatrix is honest about her cooking - she talks about it going wrong, she tells you when a recipe just plain doesn't work and admits that she sometimes loses her way a little bit. I get the confidence with cooking thing - I haven't baked for a long time.
But most of the time she gets it right. Oh boy does it go right. It's mainly sweet stuff, which suits me just fine. It's good. It's really good.
It's a Canadian blog, which means you have to do a bit of cup converting (*ahem* there's a conversion chart in the Domestic Sluttery book y'know), but once you've had a rifle through the archives you'll want to make every single damn thing.
Hey... I know the restaurant you mean (I also live in Greenwich). It survives on day-trippers and tourists; you'll never see a local there. I like sweet things too and I'm baking mad this year so thanks for introducing me to Bourbonnatrix Bakes.
ReplyDeleteI've only ever seen four people in there at one time, Anon!
DeleteAhhh....food photography to die for. I'm going to check it out immediately.
ReplyDeleteConversation chart!
ReplyDeleteHehehe! We could chart our conversations, that wouldn't be very fun for people to read, though. Thanks, Anon.
