Sluttishly Simple: Blueberry Ice Cubes

This is most certainly not a recipe. "Freeze water" does not count as a method. But Pooh sticks and piffle to that, I love this simple ice cube idea. This takes two seconds, but if you're a fan of long drinks like gin 'n' tonic it spruces them up without any effort at all. You also sneak one of your five a day into your booze without even trying. And, if you're not on the booze and want your water to taste more interesting, these ice cubes do the trick.

You don't have to stick to blueberries - basically any fruit that will fit in those little squares will work. Try raspberries or blackcurrants. Even fresh herbs would work a treat. They won't last forever - you should use them within about a month.

I've also learnt that ice is bloody hard to take a photo of. There will be no more of that this week.

You'll need:
  • An ice cube tray
  • Blueberries - depending on how many ice cubes your tray requires
  • Water
Make it!

Do you really need me to tell you how to do this? One tip, because those blueberries can be floaty little buggers - push them down with your finger and make sure they're totally submerged in the water. Otherwise they explode a bit when they're frozen and don't look nearly as pretty.

  1. These look so pretty, but do they flavour your drinks or do you just end up with a couple of lonely blueberries lurking at the bottom of the glass?

    1. You get a subtle flavour, but it's not going to suddenly make your drink take like blueberry juice. They''d taste great in lemonade.
