Sluttishly Spicy: Lovepickle

When the kind folks at Lovepickle offered to send me a jar of their new Indian pickle, I had only one word to say:

YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESPLEASELOVEPICKLESENDITNOW.

I adore pickles, chutneys, dips, ALL the condiments - especially the Indian kind. If I sit down to a curry and I don't have the full complement of sauces to accompany it - raita, spicy onions, mango chutney, and lime pickle - I feel robbed.

And now I have Lovepickle in my life, and I can never be without it.

I was sent the medium Lovepickle, and as a girl who carries a mini bottle of Tabasco in my handbag in case of emergencies, I wasn't sure if it would be hot enough for my tastes. I was pleasantly surprised, though - it's nice and spicy, with a slight kick and lots of flavour. I can only imagine that the hot variety is EVEN better. I'm not really into eye-sweatingly hot food, but if you're the sort of person who collects sauces called things like 'Bottled Hell' and 'Sudden Death', there's an extra-hot Lovepickle that'll be right up your street. And for the more gentle amongst you, there's a mild pickle, which is apparently fantastic as a dip, too.

Lovepickle is made from fresh tomatoes, chilli, spices, mustard seeds and oil, ginger, garlic, and vinegar - and that's all. No preservatives or hidden nasties lurking around in these jars, oh no. It's made to an old family recipe, and tastes fresh, spicy and zingy - quite like a tomatoey lime pickle, but not as sour. I had it with poppadoms (of course), alongside all my other favourite Indian chutneys, and I found myself bypassing them for extra helpings of Lovepickle. It's very moreish. I liked it so much I tried it in a cheese sandwich for lunch the next day, and it was DELICIOUS.

Buy Lovepickle for £2.95 a jar directly from Lovepickle HQ (the minimum order is three jars), or head to Rafi's Spicebox, where there's no minimum order, but you will miss out on being able to buy the extra-hot variety.

Lovepickle, I love you.
