Book Porn: Roads Classics
The best new book editions are the ones that make me buy copies of books that I already own. Dublin-based Roads have created some really lovely editions of my favourite classic books.
Their Frankenstein cover is actually chilling. This is the scariest part of the novel for me but it's one that often gets overlooked. Now I'm thinking that a Frankenstein snow globe would make a brilliant present. Not this one.
YUM. Damn this is a sexy book cover. It's not available yet so I'm just going to sit at my desk and refresh my browser until it is.
A cover this beautiful might even entice me to try and read To The Lighthouse again. I've never got past page twenty. Sometimes reading is hard.
Take away all the jazz age parties and cocktails and what you're left with is Tender is the Night. I think it's Fitzgerald's best book. Millions of Gatsby fans will disagree.
I actually do think The Great Gatsby cover is better, though. Damn.
The horror! The horror!
Madame Bovary is on my 'to read in 2014' list. I'm buying this version.
All of the books are available are £9.99 at Waterstones (there are 13 in the range and they all prove that judging a book by its cover is a bloody great idea). The rest are going to be released very soon. Along with - rather oddly - a range of perfume in mega sexy packaging. Roads also does film production. I like this company. They've got some odd strings to their bow, but they do their thing beautifully.
