Design Porn: Ulrika Jarl's Reinterpreted Willow Plates
At first glance, there's nothing particularly special about these willow pattern plates. But look a little bit closer at the design. Instead of flowers around the rim, there are skulls. Let's dive in a little closer.
Planes in the air and people wearing gas masks. This isn't your average willow pattern. This is Ulrika Jarl's Globalisation Willow pattern.
The plates are created from second hand Willow plates. Here's her waste design. Yes that is a boat stuck in sewage.
I think it would take a little while to notice the pattern on these. You'd have your friends over for roast dinner and they'd be all happily munching away and then... potatoes, chicken, gravy, gravy, DEFORESTATION.
What's more appetising than a blue and white depiction of the seriousness of industrial farming? Maybe Olly Moss' 8-Bit gaming willow plates.
I love the details - nuclear explosions, pylons, gas masks, all surrounded by traditional pagodas and swallows. I would pay good money for a nuclear tea set, Ms Jarl.
"Would you like some cake? Watch out for the EXTREME TIDAL WAVE." I love them all and you can buy them directly from Ulrika for £38 each (or £220 for the six if you're being all Scrooge McDuck and diving into pools of money). They're uncomfortably brilliant.
