On the fifth day of Christmas, Domestic Sluttery gave to me... a hangover from Maverick Drinks!
Not content with kicking your Christmas off to a cracking start with their Advent Calendars (look, it's only the 6th, it's not too late to get one), Maverick Drinks are offering another festive prize - cocktails from The Handmade Cocktail Company! They've expertly blended classic cocktails and popped them in 70cl bottles so you don't have to mix and shake and do any of that business. You just have to pour them into a glass.
We've got one classic cocktail bottle to give away (your choice, not all of you are gin drinkers and we've got our eye on the old fashioned) and we'll do out best to make sure it arrives in time for Christmas. To win, just do one (or all - bonus chances!) of the following:
- Leave a comment below telling us what you're planning on drinking on Christmas day. Do you all have hot chocolates, or do you get straight into the bubbly? (We have Christ cocktails coming up later, keep your eyes peeled.)
- Tweet the following: Yes please @DomesticSluts, I'd love to win classic cocktails to drink on Christmas day! http://tinyurl.com/k8hket8 Hic!
- Like Domestic Sluttery on Facebook and then like or comment on our Facebook entry, which will go live shortly.
- Sign up to our newsletter. This means you get free booze if you do that regardless of whether or not you win today's competition - you get a £60 wine voucher when you sign up!
Best of luck everyone!
PS - wondering who won the gorgeous Christmas decorations yesterday? That was the rather enigmatically named Shiny Black Shoes who entered via our newsletter (see, the extra entries work!)
Oh goody! Small print (read it). The competition will close at midnight (UK time) 8 December 2013. You must be UK based to enter, sorry you lovely overseas readers. More importantly, you have to be over 18 - and we'll check! If you're anon, your comment entry won't count and if you enter with lots of comments or a barrage of Facebook comments and tweets, we'll discount all of your entries and tell you off. The winning entry will be chosen at random and you must claim your prize within 48 hours otherwise we'll pass it on to someone else. Your prize is a bottle of classic cocktail - not the antique ones worth hundreds. We're not allowed to enter our own competitions but Siany isn't really a Christmas day drinker. She'll be opening her stocking with a cup of tea that her father has put three sugars in because he forgets that she doesn't have sugar in her tea anymore.
Hey guys, I love to start Crimbo day off with a Bucks Fizz and later some lovely Snowballs, has to be done!!
ReplyDeleteIt has to be a Bucks Fizz, or maybe straight fizz to accompany breakfast! Then it is a day of lazy drinking - wine, and maybe a whisky and ginger to top it all off. Hic.
ReplyDeleteW always pop open the Champers on Christmas day! I also love Baileys too in the evening!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend and I have made a 'Wine-vent' calendar this year by putting date tags on all the bottles in our wine rack and drinking one each day...number 25 is on a very special bottle of Brunello di Montalcino to help me over my woes because the man himself is away over Christmas. I am also being left with a delightful magnum of rioja to drink on Christmas day so the Christmas cocktails would definitely be a worthy addition to my 'numbing the pain of separation' collection! xx
ReplyDeleteChampagne at some point, hopefully mulled wine at some point, and, after a long, lovely but tiring day, it's highly probably that a small whisky might make it up the stairs as a nightcap.
ReplyDeleteI'll be at the inlaws in Glasvegas, and they're strictly a "no alcohol" people. I weep. I weep already.
ReplyDeleteThis Christmas I'll start with a coffee (standard) with a slosh of Amaretto syrup to festive it up. Then a lovely sip of Babycham for the nostalgic memories - my sister and I feeling incredibly grown up when we were allowed the tiniest sherry glass with Christmas dinner. Then I guess it's just a case of letting dad open his annual Christmas single malt and telling him it'd be rude not to give it a go - after all, it is Christmas!
ReplyDeleteAs it's a special day we have a ritual for breakfast on Christmas Day. Eggs Benedict, washed down with orange juice, Jack Daniels and espresso (in separate glasses!). It gets the day off to a great start, I can only justify it once a year though......honestly!!
ReplyDeleteWe basically drink steadily through the whole of Christmas Day - champagne cocktails or Buck's Fizz with brunch (which is usually about 10 AM), then a trip to the pub at lunchtime for a G&T, more gin whilst opening presents, and red wine with Christmas Dinner. As we are in a hotel for Christmas this year I am also likely to have at least one Snowball and possibly an after-dinner Bailey's too, which I am willing to bet means I'll end up falling asleep on a particularly comfortable sofa somewhere around 9 PM...
ReplyDeleteI celebrate with some in-laws, and they always have Bucks Fizz for breakfast. But I'm a light weight so I don't start on the wine/bubbly until the afternoon. ~ Sara littlemissplump at hotmail dot co dot uk
ReplyDeleteSpiced rum and coke, lovely and warming.
ReplyDeleteWe start the day with Champagne to accompany smoked salmon and then at some point will move on to sherry for my Mum and Whiskey for my Dad and me.
ReplyDeleteSloe gin and prosecco, first glass at exactly 12.00pm. Any earlier and I'll get called out by my mother for excessive drinking, noon is her tipping point for acceptable!
ReplyDeleteChristmas is the only time of year I drink Bucks Fizz, in the morning before breakfast while opening pressies. Then we move on to champagne (if we're feeling flush) or Prosecco. Wine with dinner, nice glass of port afterwards and if I'm not asleep by then, a G&T to freshen things up! Oh, I wish it could be Christmas every day... my liver's jolly pleased it isn't.
ReplyDeleteWe start the day with Champagne to accompany smoked salmon and then at some point will move on to sherry for my Mum and Whiskey for my Dad and me.
ReplyDeleteBabycham. And you can take your judgements and stick 'em!
ReplyDeleteNo judgement!
DeleteStart with bucks fizz, then champagne and after dinner a Cointreau and coke. Although just seen a Christmas Nog with Advocart that I might try
ReplyDeleteMy mother got 50 bottles of wine for her fiftieth so we'll be cracking open one of those. And a spot of whiskey in the evening won't go astray.
ReplyDeleteI will mostly be drinking cocktails made with Advocaat. I've moved on from the humble snowball and discovered this is such an amazing ingredient for fruity, delicious, refreshing drinks. I'll drink ALL the Advocaat :) Oh, and gin. Lots and lots of lovely gin. Yum.
ReplyDeleteStill have to start with tea!!! Then something festive like mulled wine :)
ReplyDeleteOrange juice, prosecco, Baileys. Mmmmm. Not all in one glass, though!
ReplyDeletePeach champagne while opening presents, wine with Christmas dinner and sloe gin later on.
ReplyDeleteChristmas begins on Christmas Eve with the mulled wine and mince pies, followed by a hot toddy before bed. Then we have Bucks Fizz on Christmas morning whilst opening presents and we have Spanish wine with our Christmas meal. Port to follow lunch and maybe a whiskey or Baileys in the evening.
ReplyDeleteWe always start (and continue) the day with New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc as my Mum is a Kiwi. We'll usually fit in a G&T around lunch, move onto red wine in the afternoon and the port comes out in the evening. Oh, and maybe a Baileys too. It is Christmas after all!
ReplyDeleteProsecco with elderflower for me on Christmas Day!
ReplyDeleteI think it's going to have to be something bubbly whilst we open presents, feed the cats, etc., then it's going to be a voyage of discovery as we head over the road to our neighbours for Christmas Day lunch! I have no intention of anything non-alcoholic passing my lips in liquid form bar the gravy that'll be going with lunch! (I'm sure there'll be gin in there somewhere. It has to be so, otherwise it's not Christmas!)
ReplyDeleteWe'll have some bubbly with dinner and then move on to the harder stuff in the evening - last year I polished a bottle of sherry off on my todd and had to have a nap...
ReplyDelete[email protected]
Well, I can't go too mad, too soon, as I always have to drive over to the livery yard to get my horse in after lunch, but after that... Bound to be some wine, possibly Champagne, certainly something befitting a special day. Then, later on, Baileys or Port are sure Christmas favourites.
ReplyDeleteDon't like to start to early so I have a few earl greys to get me going then in the afternoon we have some Prosecco for lunch then in the evening I think a few tia marias and cranberry will go down nicely x
ReplyDeleteBubbly and wine, all day! xx
ReplyDeleteProsecco and cranberry juice - Deliciousness :)
ReplyDeleteBucks Fizz for breakfast, then some Prosecco! Aim to be a bit wrecked before 12pm, then soak it all up with Christmas dinner - then crack open the spirits :-)
ReplyDeleteBucks Fizz for brekkie, wine with the meal then port with the cheese and more port!
ReplyDeleteChampagne in the morning, Gin in the afternoon. Baileys in the evening *hic*
ReplyDeleteStraight into the bubbly with breakfast for me. I sleep if I drink much in the day though, so will move on to tea and water for a while, then more bubbly, though I may possibly be tempted by a cooking g&t or Irish coffee later… Yum.
ReplyDeleteBucks fizz with breakfast (plus a lot of tea): Kir Royales, or some variation on them (something berry based plus something fizzy, definitely) from noon. Gin while cooking. Wine with the meal, and port after. Oh dear.
ReplyDeleteThis year we'll be mainly drinking beer from the local brewery mmm Greenfield's Dobcross, then some Lychee gin cocktails and a few mince pie martini's using this syrup http://www.harveynichols.com/food-wine/categories/wines-spirits/mixer/s474652-mince-pie-syrup.html nom nom nom we may fling in the mix a few Brandy and Baileys and Brandy and Babychams for a splash of retro fun too
ReplyDeleteTea for the morning, pink champagne for lunch, gin for Doctor Who, and then back to the tea!
ReplyDeleteAny excuse for amaretto!
ReplyDeleteMulled wine all the way! Also mulled cider. T'is the season to mull ALL THE THINGS.
ReplyDeleteLots of bubbly and the odd amaretto, as long as dad hasn;t quoffed it all before i get home!
ReplyDeleteGood lord, those look incredible. I don't tend to drink much with family, but I may be persuaded to make a cheeky mulled wine.
ReplyDeleteI tend not to need much encouragement to drink Fizz so it will be Bucks Fizz at breakfast then Prosecco through the rest of the day. Mmmmm
ReplyDeleteI'd like an Old Fashioned. I like to pretend I'm Joan from Mad Men and this is the ultimate accessory
ReplyDeleteI'm staying at my boyfriends family's house for the first time and I'm nervous as hell, however his mum makes a mean cocktail so i'll be drinking all the sex on the beach(es) she puts in my hand, and hopefully the Limoncello I made as her present.
ReplyDeleteStart with a glass of fizz (after breakfast, we aren't monsters), then some mulled wine, then a very nice glass of red with Christmas dinner, then a snoooooooze. Then some Bailey's. Repeat for the next three days.
ReplyDeleteBluuby (natch) and gin, we have 11 varieties at present, although that often increases on Christmas day!!
ReplyDeletecherry juice and champers!
ReplyDeletealthough i'll be at the mother-in-laws so i might have to supplement with a slug of bourbon...
I'll be getting mocked by all my family for enjoying port and ale! (Not together!)
ReplyDeleteWill be partaking in a variety of sesonal drinks...gin 'n tonic...Kiwi Pinot Noir...ancient port with the cheese and a relaxing Jura to finish with...then dinner:)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletePort all the way. I'll also be keeping mother's glass well refreshed as i find that port, mixed with her morphine, makes the day run much smoother!
ReplyDeleteNicky Thomas-Davies
Champagne then red wine.
ReplyDeleteLittle bottles of Cherry B and Babycham :)
ReplyDeleteI'll just have one glass of champers with lunch as I'll be driving :0(
ReplyDeleteIt's got to be sherry...the one day of the year when it actually tastes ok
ReplyDeleteI'll start with wine and finish with wine...Red or White I hear you ask....hmmmm.. both :) hic
ReplyDeleteA glass of wine with lunch then on to the diet coke as i'm working the night shift
ReplyDeleteI will start the day off with a coffee
ReplyDeleteI start off with a cuppa and glass of champagne, followed by glass of prosecco when we arrive at Christmas Day destination then wine and port throughout the day!
ReplyDeleteBucks Fizz (and cups of tea) throughout the morning. Wine with dinner. Gluwien with lebkuchen and mince pies in the evening, German white wine for a Christmas film, an a wee gin as a nightcap.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be a sherry early on, then some Prosecco... a robust red with the main course. .. and in the evening I am able to make a g&t large enough to send my gran into a snooze while the rest of us have a French brandy and crack on with the board games and Dr Who.

ReplyDeleteI like a bit of Baileys in Christmas eve & then bubbly on Christmas Day
ReplyDeleteGot to be the bucks fizz in the morning!
ReplyDeleteI'll be starting Christmas day off with our traditional Christmas breakfast of milky coffee and Cadbury's Chocolate Fingers :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be starting the day with my black coffee, but it's a nice glass of Rose with my Christmas dinner and a glass of sweet Sherry in the evening
ReplyDeleteI'll be drinking amaretto sours! My new favourite!
ReplyDeleteI will be making a champagne cocktail which includes champagne, elderflower cordial and vodka, a refreshing start to our christmas lunch!
ReplyDeleteWe only drink later in the day maybe with the evening meal - a glass of wine. Just coffee for us in the morning.
ReplyDeleteBucks Fizz at breakfast. Mulled wine in the afternoon, this fills the house with a wonderful spicy smell. Christmas dinner is at 7 and we ha.ve a choice of red or white wine and brandy with the coffee. Can't wait
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat an old-fashioned Snowball
ReplyDeleteChampagne is a must. Mulled wine will also be on the list.
ReplyDeleteWell I need to drive so sadly I can't drink but I'll make up for it on Boxing day, haha!!
ReplyDeleteIt's champagne to start and then a really nice bottle (or two) with Christmas dinner. Port or dessert wine to finish the meal and then a brandy later...
ReplyDeleteIt used to be snowballs with my mother (we were all taught to drink at a young age, in a responsible way I should point out!) but nowadays it has to be a little bubbly or a good red. Not too much otherwise I would fall asleep before lunch.
ReplyDeleteMulled wine
ReplyDeleteA wide variety, but strangely mainly coffee
ReplyDeleteI plan to experiment with cocktails for Christmas - I've bought a second-hand shaker set from the local vintage shop: a Boston shaker, a Manhattan shaker (who knew there were two types?), ice bucket, strainer, muddler and spoon for £10 the lot - bargain! I've been stocking up with assorted spirits and alcoholic must-haves: cherry brandy, dry vermouth, kirsch, etc at a bottle or two a week with the regular grocery shop. I'm just missing a good rum, angostura bitters and a sweet vermouth - is that Dubonnet?
ReplyDeleteBut some pre-made cocktails could save my aching arms! *g*
i like to start the day with a baileys coffee!!!
ReplyDeleteA late morning cocktail always goes down well.
ReplyDeletecup of tea first and then the bubbly
ReplyDeleteI'll have a coffee when I get up. Then , late morning, we'll start on the Bucks Fizz made with a dash of Triple Sec added -delicious!
ReplyDeleteHot chocolate with a tiny drop of Baileys (it's Christmas after all!) in the morning, wine at lunch, port in the afternoon, & a mulled wine before bed!
ReplyDeleteAlways hot chocolate first followed by whatever alcohol we have in the house. Usually whisky or mulled wine until I am tipsy enough to deny being drunk.
ReplyDeleteBucks fizz with breakfast, wine with Xmas Dinner. After dinner coffee with a bit of Amaretto. Cocktails in the evening x
ReplyDeleteChampagne as a pre-prandial, red wine with lunch, G&T while watching HRH, perhaps a little more wine later on, and a tot of Talisker as a nightcap
ReplyDeletea nice bottle of redwine, although il have to take it easy i havnt drank for last 9months(and babys not due for another week so she best be on time or il be drinking water and not redwine!) xxx
ReplyDeleteBucks fizz to start off the Christmas morning, and as the day goes on cocktails consisting of "a slippery slope" champagne and a shot of chocolate liqueur!
ReplyDeleteStart off with coffee as it'll be very early !! Then some sort of fizz :-)
ReplyDelete"Dirty" proseccos with hone made mixed fruit gin. Love it!
ReplyDeleteRum and coke is good all year round :D
ReplyDeleteI'll be drinking ginger ale on Christmas Day, due to being hugely up the duff with twins. I intend to get profoundly drunk on good booze at the first post-birth opportunity - staring with a Dark & Stormy!
ReplyDeleteOh where to start, we have bubbles for the morning, then there is usually winevwith dinner. This year I also want to start a new tradition, we were given some lovely game of thrones mugs for a wedding present and I want to use them but also keep them a bit special so they are going to be our Christmas eggnog mugs! I've also had can new cocktail book that I've found rather inspiring, so we are stocking up on various bottles, we've ordered creme de mure and everything :)
