Shoe Porn: Selve
Selve do something a little different. I'm not going to lie to you, if you're after a cheap shoe fix, you're not going to enjoy this blog post (click on the shoe porn tag and have a bit of a browse instead). But if you've ever wanted made to order shoes, read on.
I've found a couple of websites where you can make your own shoes. In the whole Style Shake style. Upper Street spring to mind. I can't comment on how good they are, I've never used them. But it does feel a little paint by numbers. I like the idea (c'mon, you get to play Jimmy Choo!), but if I'm going to spend £100s on designing a pair of shoes, it's not just the style I'm bothered about. And then I discovered Selve. And I'm very excited.
Selve make sure you do a shoe fitting, you see. So not only do you get to decide all of the leather and suedes and colours and uppers and details and all that gubbins, you get Cinderella shoes (and Prince Charming shoes too - there's options for men). The shoes that for years to come will be the perfect fit. If you've ever had something made for you, you'll know how amazing that feels. And if it's for something that special, it's worth paying for. It'll take you four weeks to get them because they're handmade especially for you.
The downside? Well I don't have a fairy godmother like Cinderella, so unfortunately I'm going to have to shell out for a pair. Flats are looking at around £325, and boots going up as far as £550. But I do think it's worth it (once I've got into the habit of getting my shoes reheeled anyway). There's something about a proper pair of tailor made shoes that feels very special and grown up. I'd love to buy a pair of these for a special celebration or birthday. Selve might not be a quick fix to me shoe addiction, but it will give me something to treasure for years.

I read about Selve on Liberty London Girl's blog a few weeks ago and have been dying to try them ever since, she got the cutest men's brogues made to fit. Best start saving my pennies!
ReplyDeleteI only discovered them yesterday, but there seems to be something more special about these. I really want some. I just need to find an occasion special enough to justify it...
ReplyDeleteI love this concept, I can't wait to create my first pair. I discovered that Selve are having a Trunk show on Tuesday and Wednesday 19th and 20th Oct in London. I'm definiteley going to pay them a visit and have a go at 'individualising'!
