Sluttery Travels: The Old Railway Station, Sussex
I adore train journeys. Love them. Even in London, I don't get very angry about commuter trains. But I'm all about the romantic train journeys. I can't think of anything more perfect than travelling across Europe on the Orient Express.
But, I can't afford to do that (it's £2000 to get to Italy! Two grand!) I can however, afford to stay in the Old Station Hotel in Petworth, Sussex. It actually is an old railway station!
You have a choice of staying in the carriages or the old station house (carriages, obviously). And they're mighty pretty:
The carriages are available at pretty reasonable rates too. £90 per night for a late deal, and increasing to £170 in high season. Loads cheaper than the Orient Express, but just as romantic as Brief Encounter.
Will someone take me please?

I love it. I want to go there now. Might be a bit chilly at night though :-)
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is totally my kind of thing. I LOVE trains. I'm such a geek about them. I would be happy to spend all day pottering up and down the country on the train.
ReplyDeleteOK, that's enough reveal...
oooooooohhhhhhhhhhh. A stationery train. How perfect. Anything to do with travel suits me. X
ReplyDeleteIf you're interested in finding out a bit more about the history of the closed Pulborough to Midhurst railway line on which The Old Railway Station is sited, I've written about it here.
