Bollocks To Baking: Lily Vanilli's Bleeding Heart
Hearts and flowers and teddy bears holding hearts and flowers and yawn yawn yawn. My tolerance threshold for Valentine's Day has just been reached and I'm done. I want something a little bit different.
Like this bleeding heart cake from Lily Vanilli, which was spotted over at The Style King, and then came to us via the powers of Twitter. Lily Vanilli are the cupcakery du jour at the moment, and their treats are popping up at all sorts of celebrity bashes. But the only cake I'm interested is this one.
Each bleeding heart cake is "baked with a delicious red velvet sponge, cream cheese frosting and blackcurrant & cherry 'blood'". Sounds fab, doesn't it? My blackcurrant allergy means I can't try one, so if you have, do let us know what you thought. Lily Vanilli are teaming up with cancer charity Trekstock, so 20% of your £7 will go to charity. They're not cheap, but they're the coolest cakes I've seen in a while.

Couldn't you request for them to use something different in the sauce rather than blackcurrant?
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, if I can get it in a shape that doesn't resemble a human or animal organ, then I would love to try it.
ReplyDeleteBut that's why it's so awesome, Meera! Otherwise, it's just cake.
ReplyDeleteOh! That's really quite cool. Do they deliver??
ReplyDeleteI could actually eat a whole large intenstine's worth of this cake! but would love to serve the bleeding heart to my hubby - because he is a bit squeamish and I'm a bit wicked!
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this - what better way to say you love someone than to present them with an edible bleeding anatomical heart?
ReplyDeleteIt's very romantic, Sarah.
ReplyDeleteMeredith, I think the do deliver but I'm not sure of their courier area. I don't think you'd want to post this, could get messy (with apotentially hilarious consequences at the Post Office).
Hehehehe! I like that. It's very Buffy. Or should I say, Angelus!
ReplyDelete(Sorry, showing my massive Geekness!)
This is unbelievably brilliant, yet disturbing at the same time. I can only imagine my partner's face if I brought this out. He's ultra-squeamish!
ReplyDeleteI can totally see the coolness (and brilliant artistry) of this, but I'm still too squeamish (was a veggie all my life till about 5 years ago, and eating organs - or the thought of it - still creeps me out a bit).
ReplyDeleteI wanted this so much but it cost £51 to deliver to me in London! I didn't like it that much...
ReplyDeleteHowever apparently their book has the recipe in so I might try to have a go myself :)
