Design Porn: Clarice Price Thomas
I like jewellery that has a bit of a story, when it feels like it's come from somewhere a little more tangible than just being pretty (although don't get me wrong, I've got plenty of time for pretty). Clarice Price Thomas' jewellery certainly has a story. She's the daughter of a clock and watchmaker and her jewellery focusses on antique clock mechanisms, the dials, the watch faces, the tick-tick-tocking.
Clarice has taken the antique movements and hidden machines and turned them into pieces of modern jewellery. The story is still there. It might be polished, shiny, maybe a little classier, but you can still see it.
Clarice's pieces come in gold and silver, with precious stones in a few pieces It's rare I say this, but I actually prefer the gold.
The earrings are just as gorgeous as the rings. I'm not a massive fan of the necklaces, the engraved phrases don't really do it for me, and I think the designs are more striking in some of the other pieces.
How gorgeous are those ticking earrings? You can see the original pieces, but they've taken on an Art Deco feel. They're simply beautiful.
Impressively, Clarice's jewellery is really well-priced. I can afford it! Rings start at £48 (the triple cog with the sapphire is just £150), the earrings start at £54 for studs and the tick and tock designs are around £198. It's rare to see something so beautifully-crafted at such a good price, I'm absolutely smitten with this range.
