It's not often I write about bars in London, because it's just plain not fair on those of you outside of the city. I can't help myself when it comes to The Hide Bar, because I never stop being surprised by what a fantastic place it is.
The cocktail menu is pretty extensive, which I've never thought a particularly good thing (seriously, ten classics, some seasonal goodies and a few bar specials is all I need), but I've never had a badly mixed drink here. They don't shy away from complex drinks, either. A Brandy Crusta isn't an easy drink to knock up, and there aren't many bars I've found that can make an Angel Face without asking me what's in it (gin, apricot brandy, apricot liqueur - it'll blow your mind and give you a shocker of a hangover).
I keep finding myself here and each time I do, I try another drink, have the barman suggest something new and enjoy it even more than the last time. It's becoming a regular haunt and I'm very happy about it. If you find yourself on the south side of the river, head straight here for a cocktail.
The Hide Bar is at 39-45 Bermondsey Street and drinks teeter around the £8 mark. Enjoy.
I can't believe you're telling other people about this place. I thought we TALKED about this.
ReplyDeleteWell I shared with you, it's ruined with riff raff now.
DeleteYou're lucky it's too hot for me to come round and... oh lord, it's too hot for me to finish my threat.
DeleteI work on Bermondsey St and had written this off a few years ago as a bad job, bit spiritless, bit corporate in the wrong location, we will be trying again! Is it really that good?? I might have to test them with my litmus test margarita :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is really that good! It looks pretty generic and spiritless from the outside, but it's hiding secrets. Really boozy secrets.
