Design Porn: John Dilnot

First it was Andy Malone, then it was Su Blackwell. Now the part of my heart reserved for paper cuts, origami and papier mache is getting all excited about John Dilnot's work.

Box of moths! How brilliant. It's bordering on sinister (I'm not friends with the part of my brain that just asked 'what if they all came to life and attacked you in your sleep?' THANKS VERY MUCH, BRAIN) but it's definitely kinda cool.

This abandoned house is such a beautiful piece of artwork (and actually, the wood that John uses looks rather yummy as well).

The woodpeckers are my favourite. I like that they've started on the trees but they're eying up the sides of the box. These are all custom made, so you could totally have woodpeckers around the outside. Because they're custom made, they don't come cheap - they're about £400 each.

But wait! Don't go! John Didcot is a man of many papery talents. It's not all boxes and confused credit card people calling to ask why you've spend hundreds of pounds on a box of moths. Look at his lovely books.

I love this book of bad apples - all forgotten names of real apples! This book is only £8.50, handmade and limited edition (there are 500 - that's a lot of making by hand).

This gorgeous natural history book is £20! That's an amazing price for something so beautiful. You can buy loads of John's designs in postcard and mini print form, so even if you can't afford one of the bigger pieces, you can treat me yourself me to something really lovely and handmade. The moths almost certainly won't come to life and then eat you.

  1. I only just pinned John Dilnot's moth collection to my Pinterest about 6 days ago and now I see you have also picked up on the papercutting genius.
