Put on Your Pearls Girls!

This wet and wild Thursday afternoon is definitely lacking in the glamour department. I'm mooching around at home and feeling a bit blah. What I need is some good advice from the eternally stylish Lulu Guinness. And what would Lulu tell me? Why to put on my pearls! Lulu's saying - and also the title of her book - has been used to inspire this new scarf, created especially for the V&A Museum shop. It's to tie in with a new exhibition opening at the Museum on Saturday, devoted to the beauty of pearls.

You can pick up the scarf for £50, but I'm using her pearl of wisdom as inspiration to seek out even more delightful pearls. Don't tell Lulu but I'm not actually a big fan of pearl jewellery - the traditional earrings, or the long pearl strands just don't do it for me (though I know some of the girls completely disagree). These pompom earrings, however, from Kate Wood jewellery and sold through Cockpit Arts, via Culturelabel, are wonderful. They're £75 but you know they'd be brightening your ears for years.

As a cheaper alternative, for costume bling, you really can't beat Accessorize. Their Delphine necklace has a great vintage look and is also just £19.

The accessorising has already been done for you with the Pan-Pearl cardigan from Anthropologie, reduced in their sale to £54.95. It's possibly a little too Shoshanna for my liking (my Girls DVD marathon now means I'm judging all fashion by that show), so as a slightly more rocking alternative I'd like to suggest this Sister Jane top - there's a matching skirt too. Hannah would wear it on those rare occasions where she keeps her top on.

Why leave the pearls to things you can wear? Another pearl of wisdom comes from Disaster Design's The World is Your Oyster travel card holder, £12 from Lisa Angel.

While the Giselle round pearl cushion probably isn't the comfiest thing to snuggle up to on a night, it does offer a pretty bit of sparkle. Perfect for a Lulu Guinness-esque room on the cheap - it's only £20 from Kaleidoscope.

And more boudoir chic courtesy of Lisbeth Dahl's pearl coat hanger - use it to display your loveliest dresses or jewels. You can get one for £6 from Amazon.

We've been saving up our pocket money for many years now for Graham and Green's Mother of Pearl range. I can now just about stretch to one of their Mother of Pearl door knobs. This daisy design is £4.50 for example, and just the thing to glam up my Argos bought chest of drawers. Lulu would be proud of me.
