Design Porn: Katharine Morling

What brilliant ceramics do we have up our sleeves today? The brilliant Katharine Morling. She creates ceramic turtles in a suitcase, which makes her instantly one of my favourite people. Katharine describes her work as 3 dimensional drawings. They are, quite simply, some of the most spectacular ceramics I've ever seen.

This doctor's bag, which reminds me a bit of a ceramic Mary Poppins. But unlike hers, this one weighs five kilos.

There's a tiny ceramic chair on that large ceramic chair to the right. Katharine's house must be full of fragile things. This installation is about four metres wide.

Cher-ching!

Drawers full of butterflies! Just what you always wanted.

Oh, it just gets better.

Typewriter bashing will not be tolerated, things will get smashed and that would be all sorts of terrible.

I'm sorry to tease, but these gorgeous sculptures come with a dose of bad news: some of them cost thousands. And you can see why, there is magic in these pieces. But, because she's a wondrous lady who wants to make us happy, Katharine has also created some slightly more affordable ceramic pieces.

I love this tape measure. It's one of Katharine's simplest designs, but it's beautiful. I know a couple of ladies handy with a sewing machine who would love this.

The open scissors (don't run) are just £30 - the cheapest piece in the collection.

This little writing set is my favourite. It's like a little collection of my favourite things. It's £175. Katharine's work isn't something you'll buy every day. You might only ever buy one piece in your lifetime, but I can just imagine someone I love opening a carefully wrapped box with one of these inside and seeing the look of delight on their face. These are incredible special.
