Cocktail Hour: Horse's Neck

The name for this cocktail doesn't come from any weird ingredients. It's all to do with getting the curl of the lemon peel to look like a horse's neck as it curves around the glass. Clever huh? I do love a drink that looks pretty, that's probably half the appeal for me (and why I'm such a fan of the mimosa). Not too many ingredients this time, so you'll be able to whip this up within minutes of walking through the door tonight.

You'll need:
  • 50ml Bourbon
  • 150ml ginger ale
  • Dash of Angostura bitters
  • Ice
  • Lemon peel
Shake it!

Fill a tall glass with ice and add the bourbon and ginger ale. Stir gently to mix everything together and add the bitters. To make the lemon peel spiral, run a potato peeler across the length of a lemon. It should curl up as you peel, and then you can hang it on the inside of your glass.

  1. Bartenders often use the complete lemon peel including the two ends to create this effect. It really does look very impressive, it's a shame you couldn't get a photo of it!

  2. Looked everywhere! And wasn't going to attempt making my own at 10am...
