In a last-minute dash to find a boy-friendly birthday present, we wound up in Ella's Bakehouse in Covent Garden. And they understood the "absolutely no flowers" instructions perfectly. We left nine mini cupcakes richer and eight English pounds poorer. Very good buying in our book. For some reason Domestic Slut Alex never got to try any of the cupcakes, but I did. And they were pretty darn tasty. I managed to nab a red velvet one and it was one of the best little cakes I've had in a while. Really really tasty. Just enough frosting, but soft and squishy texture too. And enough edible glitter to keep a tipsy girl happy. I love edible glitter.
I'll definitely be back to Ella's Bakehouse, but I wish their boxes were a little sturdier. The lid wouldn't stay closed and despite being upright for the whole journey, our mini cupcakes were looking a little worse for wear by the time we arrived at the birthday party. Still, maybe Alex and I should have kept them for ourselves instead. That's an excellent solution to tasty cake transportation problems.
You'll find Ella's Bakehouse on the Covent Garden Piazza next to Whistles. Go!

I can't speak highly enough of Ella's Bakehouse. Lorraine Pascale's cupcakes have the lightest sponge I have ever experienced!
ReplyDeleteSoooo yummy! We just wish they hadn't got all messed up on the journey. Still, yummy cake is still yummy cake.
ReplyDeleteI love Ella's bakehouse! Tried a peanut butter one for the first time last month and it was delicious.
ReplyDeleteThe 50's diner type atmosphere is adorable too.
I loved the music they played in there! Made the whole place feel really cosy. Can't wait to go back.
ReplyDeleteI am soooo craving cup cakes right now!
