Design Porn: Hairy Growler

If your web filter has let you access a link that has both "porn" and a euphemism for lady bits in the title, then congratulations, you're in for a treat. Hairy Growler make jewellery from recycled materials: forks, spoons and coins become exceptionally beautiful, delicate accessories. It's a magical world where forks become bracelets and pennies become pendants.

The work that goes into these cut coin pendants is incredible. They've carefully cut out the background to make the picture stand out. One slip doesn't bear thinking about. This half penny is £48, and there's a very sweet jenny wren farthing for £20 in the same range.

*Obligatory Domestic Sluttery owl klaxon* More dazzlingly intricate work here, this time made from a flattened Victorian coin. Look at the detail on those feathers! I'm sure the owl's taking the pixie out for a day trip, and definitely not back to her nest to deliver to her young. At £225, put this one on your special birthday list.

After an unusual ring? These recycled fork should fit the bill. Wear it one way and it's obvious it used to be cutlery; give it a twist, and it just looks like a swirly pattern. It's £36.

This bird could have joined Kat's round-up of Twitter-related gifts. He's £68 and comes with either a bronze star or a crescent moon, depending on how whimsical you're feeling.

Celebrate the great British summer with these teaspoon earrings. Your ears will be prepared for sudden downpours, even if you realise you've forgotten to pack an umbrella AGAIN.

The site's a bit fiddly to navigate, so go to the "quick look" page to search by different types of jewellery and bookmark the ones you're buying on payday.

  1. I found a chap in Greenwich Market the other weekend who does stuff in a very similar vein to this (a bit simpler and as I recall much cheaper). Got a beautiful ring made from the fancy end of a silver spoon!
